National Badminton Championships: Players from Pullela Gopichand Badminton Academy steal limelight
Pullela Gopichand Badminton Academy’s players stole the limelight in India by dominating all five events in the 76th Senior National Badminton Championships, which ended on Wednesday, January 25, in Bangalore, India.
On the final day of National Championships, no defending champion could win the title again as all new shuttlers dominated the field in all categories including Women’s and Men’s Singles, Women’s and Men’s Doubles and Mixed Doubles.
Another surprising fact is that all title winners came from Gopichand’s academy. The national coach of India, Gopichand, who is also a former All England Champion, is very happy and satisfied with the performance of his shuttlers in the national tournament.
Gopichand’s academy is based in Hyderabad and shuttlers from every corner of India are getting training over there.
The recent performance of his players in the National Championships indicates that they are on the right track of progress and are ready to shine at international level.
In the three out of five title matches, all Gopichand’s shuttlers faced each other for the crown, which is a phenomenal performance.
Gopichand, who has been serving the country for about 20 years, at first as a player and now as a coach, is satisfied with the steady progress of players under his charge.
While talking about the fabulous performance of shuttlers in the National Championships, Gopichand said that he is more than happy.
He said, "I am absolutely thrilled with the result. As a coach, I cannot expect a better result than this. All my wards have done well and swept the titles. It is a very satisfying moment for me and all the support staff of the academy."
He further added, "Both Sourabh and Sindhu did a superb job. Before the tournament started, I expected Sindhu to win the title since she has been playing very well for the last few months. But in the men's section, the competition was tough.”
The coach also appreciated the performance of World Number 48 Sourabh Varma, who won the title in the presence of India’s experienced shuttlers including, Chetan Anand, B Sai Praneeth, Anup Sridhar and HS Prannoy.
According to the coach, this performance in the National Championships will certainly boost their confidence and they will be in a better position to maintain this impressive run in the upcoming tournaments.
