National Bank of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 v Water and Power Development Authority – President's Trophy, 2012/13 – Match Update – WAPDA win by an innings and 9 runs
A ruthless bowling attack was the defining feature of the Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) team, as they swept the National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) aside in the ongoing President's Trophy, by claiming victory by an innings and 9 runs at the Iqbal Stadium in Faisalabad, in their first-class match played from November 14 to 16.
WAPDA won the toss and chose to field first on the first day of play – a decision which was justified by the attacking performances of Zulfiqar Babar (26-6-86-4), http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sarfraz-Ahmed-c88818 (14-2-28-3), and Junaid Khan (15.1-3-31-3). Only five of the NBP’s batsmen managed to make it into double figures, and out of these, none were able to convert their starts into substantial scores.
Wicketkeeper batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kamran-Akmal-c70122 (37) was the top-scorer for his team, while Hammad Azam (29) was the only other batsman who came close to putting up a fight, and the team eventually found themselves all out at a meagre 164 on the first day of play.
In order to compensate, the NBP launched a bowling attack featuring http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Raza-Hasan-c84407 (22-4-86-3) as the most prominent performers – however, after their team’s dismal batting performance, the NBP’s bowlers failed to keep WAPDA in check.
Zulfiqar Babar (78*) and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Asif-Khan-c46487 (35), managed to get WAPDA up to 286 before they were all out by the end of day 2.
The total was not exactly one which could be labelled as daunting, but WAPDA launched an effective defence, featuring http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Azhar-Attari-c46893 (8.2-0-19-3), all of whom made sure the NBP did not come near the target.
This time only three NBP batsmen were able to contribute double-digit scores, while a total of three batsmen were dismissed on duck. Opener http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Wahab-Riaz-c95839 (10) did not manage to contribute as much. Day three saw the NBP all out at 113, with WAPDA going on to clinch victory by a margin of an innings and nine runs.
