National Ethnic Superiority: Are there any cultures that claim to be Inferior rather than Superior?

So many cultures have myths, stories, and values regarding their superiority over all other peoples.

So many cultures extol their rightful Dominion over Nature and that humans are intrinsically better than animals.

But are there any cultures that have proclaimed that they are not the best?

"We're Number 2!"

  1. Some make a living off of it.

  2. What's the point of telling yourself that you're not the best?

    Not exactly a motivator....

But I would suggest the Bhuddists  might get close to that, since they teach equality of all living creatures, and that whole reincarnation getting closer to enlightenment.

  3. I guess that's proof that "Survival of the Fittest" is a valid concept!

Any tribes who were proud of being inferior are already extinct. Take Neanderthals, for example! They were the #2 rated Hominin in Europe for 10,000 years. Now they're gone!

  4. The only one I can think of is the nation of Fox News.  They just don't realize how loudly they scream their inferiority.  Come to think of it, dittoheads may qualify too.

  5. Yes, some Muslims from culture different than the culture of Prophet Mohammad think that their culture is Second to Qurashite Arabic one, which was the Prophet's.

Also, many of Muslim sheiks, and dictators, too!, trace back their origins to Prophet Mohammad's tribe, known as Banu Hashim, and denigrate their own local tribes. This includes most of the Sufi sheikhs in Sudan, including the Mahdi of the 1885. In additio. most of the Middle Eastern presidents and kings such as King Hussein of Jordan, al-Hassan of Morocco, and Saddam Hussein of Iraq.
