If somebody fought in the national golden gloves this year does that mean they cannot fight in the summer Olympics?

Because none of the olympians fought in the Golden Gloves. Is that because the fighters are training for the olympics?

  1. Isnt olympics for pros? golden gloves is for ameteurs

    idk...

  2. the Olympics and golden gloves are not connected in anyway. someone who fought in golden gloves could fight in the Olympics but doing so doesn't mean they will. the Olympics are a very advanced level of amateur boxing and you must fulfill a certain requirement to even qualify to apply for the Olympics

  3. I,ve been there done that. This is how it works You said none of the Olympian fought in the National  Golden Gloves that,s not true Most of your Gold medal winners will be in the Olympics I did say most there is a box off the fighter who wins two fights will go to the Olympics Evander Holyfield is a good example he had to fight Ricky Wormack twice to represent the US it,s a good system because when we chose a team we know we are sending the best we have this is the only time in judging fights that we send the best not who we like . You do have to qualify for  the Olympic trials and these tournaments are held all over the US . Now some fighters will go to another region if he feels there is to much competitions in his weight class and try to get a invitation that way but in the end the cream will rise to the top it is a very interesting process. If you are reall good and luck and don,t get hurt you can make it in about 12 matches that,s it sounds simple

  4. Sorry both of you are wrong,

To fight in the olympics you must have an amatuer record of more then 12 fights OPEN, also be at least 17 years old,,

And you must try out in about 8 months advance for the olympics....

Trust me its harder to get in then a "hot" night club in LA.....

Also you will go for many qualifying rounds that will take at least 2 months to pass thro,, the lower weight classes tend to have more fighter's meaning more rounds,

    Higher weight classes is less.

They only take the BEST in america in each weight class...

    and its amaturs not pros,

Its the "Creme de la crop"out of all amatur contests.

For example this years 2008 american boxing team was already choosen about 2 months ago..
