Question:

National Grid - how much for a disconnection?

I have just been told that it will cost £1,293 to have a gas pipe disconnected from a house that is due for demolition. I think this is excessive, just to dig a hole and cut off a pipe. Is this the usual cost?

  1. Just leave it and they will do it anyway.

  2. They need to plug the pipe at the mains end, which means digging up the road.

  3. Offer it to a fire dept. to practice on.   Someone will think of turning off the gas before lighting it up, probably.   If not, it will be a good show.
