National History Day Topic Idea?

I need a good topic idea for National History Day because it is mandatory for my US History Class. This year's theme is "The Individual in History." I want to do an exhibit with my partner and I want to get it started early so we can get a good grade since this counts as most of our history grade for the year. I want to do it over somebody that nobody has heard of and would have a good story to reveal. Also, my teacher says is has to be somebody from the US since it is a US History Class. Thanks for any ideas!

Harriet Beecher Stowe. her book Uncle toms cabin is said to have started the civil war.

I think that would work out pretty well. Look at authors such as Maya Angelou, to activists (try and avoid MLK, a little cliche), to malcolm x (after his reconvertion to islam)
