National Hockey League announces 2011-2012 regular season schedule –NHL Update
The National Hockey League (NHL) has announced the 2011-2012 regular season on Thursday, which will be very useful for the fans all around the world who are anticipating the beginning of the new season.
The playoffs might just have ended, but most people are already anticipating the new season.
All 30 teams have also announced their schedules separately, which gives a list of the games that they will play and on what dates and against which team. This makes it easier for fans to follow their specific teams which they favour over others.
Season Begins –Thursday, October 6
The regular season will begin on Thursday, October 6, 2011. Three games are scheduled for that day, which include Philadelphia Flyers vs. Boston Bruins, Montreal Canadiens vs. Toronto Maple Leafs and Pittsburgh Penguins vs. Vancouver Canucks.
Compuware NHL Premiere Games – Friday October 7-8
Compuware NHL Premiere Games are scheduled to begin the next day after the start of the regular season.
New York Rangers, Buffalo Sabres, Los Angeles Kings and Anaheim Ducks are the NHL teams which will play against European teams in the cities of Stockholm in Sweden, Helsinki in Finland and Berlin, Germany.
Two Previous Stanley Cup Champions will Meet –Saturday, October 15
Stanley Cup champions of the previous two finals will meet on October 15, 2011 in Chicago as the Boston Bruins (2011) and Chicago Blackhawks (2010) will face off against each other.
2011 NHL Hall of Fame Game - Saturday, November 5
One of the most anticipated events of the season is the Hall of Fame game which takes place annually as past Hall of Famers gather up and play against each team. This time it will be Hall of Famers from Boston going up against Toronto’s.
All-Star Weekend –January 26-30
One of the most anticipated events during the season, the All-Star weekend, which includes different events like the skills competition and the All-Star Game. The location of the event is yet to be announced.
2011 Stanley Cup Finalists Meet Again –Saturday, January 7
Vancouver Canucks and Stanley Cup winners, Boston Bruins, meet again on January 7, 2012.
NHL’s Most Action Packed Day –Saturday, April 7
April 7th will be the NHL’s most action packed day since 15 games are scheduled to be played on that single day.
Regular Season Ends – Saturday, April 7
Along with being the busiest day of the season, it will also conclude the season and mark the short break for the postseason to begin.
