National Hockey League Latest – Buffalo Sabres win 2-1 against the Montreal Canadiens after overtime
The 683rd game of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series saw the Buffalo Sabres play host to the Montreal Canadiens this Tuesday. The match took place at the HSBC Arena with around 18,000 fans coming to witness the match.
Buffalo Sabres levelled the scores in the second period and with maintained a very tight defence in the final period which took the match in overtime. During overtime, Buffalo Sabres scored to win the match 2-1 in end. Tyler Ennis, winger of the Buffalo
Sabres was named the star selection of the match for equalizing goal and for the winning goal assist.
Montreal Canadiens made decent start to the match. As did the Buffalo Sabres but their attacks and defence was shaky at the start of the match. The Buffalo Sabres defence wasn’t able to coordinate and communicate with each other properly which resulted in
the Montreal Canadiens scoring to take the lead.
The goal was scored by David Desharnais from a brilliant tip in shot. Both teams continued to attack and some excellent pieces of play were observed. With the passage of time, both teams defence got stronger and stronger. Shots were blocked and attacks were
cut off regularly which may have turned dangerous later.
The period ended with the Montreal Canadiens leading 1-0 as they made 7 goal attempts while Buffalo Sabres made 9 goal attempts.
Montreal Canadiens continued to pile pressure on the home side but unfortunately they failed to score. On the other hand, Buffalo Sabres emerged as a stronger opponent in the second period. With the goal attempts and hard work, they successfully level the
scores with the goal scored by Tyler Ennis in the 12th minute.
The period saw Buffalo Sabres attacking till the very end of the period but they failed to score as the period ended with the scores level on 1-1. During the course of the second period, Montreal Canadiens made 12 goal attempts while Buffalo Sabres made
16 goal attempts.
Both teams came up with a strong performance in the final period attacking when needed and defending when the other team was on the attacking. There were plenty of chances for both teams during the course of the period but unfortunately no goals were scored
by either of the teams as the period ended.
The scores at the end of the period was level on 1-1 and the match into overtime. During the course of overtime, Jason Pominville scored through a brilliant flick shot in the 2nd minute to win the match 2-1. During the course of the final period,
both teams made 11 goal attempts each respectively.
