National Hockey League (NHL) October Review: Boston Bruins
While some might actually believe that Boston Bruins have ended the month of October as one of the lowest ranking teams in the entire National Hockey League (NHL), it is actually the truth.
Coming out of a Stanley Cup winning season by beating Vancouver Canucks in game-seven of the 2011 NHL Finals, Boston has certainly not lived up to expectations with their performance in the 2011-2012 season thus far.
With six points, Boston stands at number 15 (The lowest) in the Eastern Conference and only above the league’s worst team, Columbus Blue Jacket, by one single point with six.
"Obviously we can’t be happy with the record", said Patrice Bergeron. "We don’t want to feel sorry for ourselves and we know that we put ourselves in this situation and we have to get out of it”.
Now the situation with Bruins is that they might be turning towards desperation to find solutions for their problems, which could be a make-it or break-it situation for the champs.
"It’s about being desperate to find some urgency to do it. We’re not happy with it, but that being said we’ve got to find a way to get out of it and to work through it and it’s not going to happen overnight”, Bergeron added.
For other players on the team, consistency is the key to success and without it, playing would be just a waste of time and ultimately get them nowhere near defending the championship during the postseason next year.
"I think as a player, you want to be at your best each and every night", said Chris Kelly. "I think like a lot of other guys, I can be much better each and every night in all aspects of the game”.
Currently, Boston has one of the worst records in the league by having played a total of 10 games and lost seven. They also ended the month of October with a three-game losing streak and only one match of theirs during the past month went into a shootout,
which they barely managed to win.
Losing six in regulation, Boston must reassess themselves if they hope on defending the cup this year. With many teams eyeing the most coveted championship in the hockey world, Bruins are not showing any interest in the challenge at all.
Hoping to get Sidney Crosby anytime during November, Pittsburgh Penguins are in full throttle to emerge as the top contenders for the cup this season, which is not hard to imagine at all.
