National Hockey League (NHL) October Review: Calgary Flames
Calgary Flames are coming out a season, during which they certainly did disappoint, but during the final moments, looked as if they would be repeating another comeback and make it through to the Stanley Cup Finals.
The National Hockey League (NHL) throughout the month of October during the new 2011-2012 regular season has had many turnarounds by the great teams of last season steeping downwards, while the slackers picking up the pace and taking the top spots in their
respective conferences.
Calgary was one of those teams that just seemed to continue from where they left off, prior to their comeback, and struggled to get a few wins here and there. It is not hard to see that Flames do have a huge amount of talent on their line-up, but just being
lazy has always cost them points and kept them out of the playoffs.
Flames kicked of the new season and the month of October with two straight losses against Pittsburgh Penguins and St. Louis Blues by quite a margin as well. They finally captured their first win after their second road game against Montreal Canadiens with
a, 4-1, difference, which showed they have the capability of manhandling the opposition, but it was closely followed by another loss to Toronto Maple Leafs.
Their provincial rivals, Edmonton Oilers, lost by the length of a hair to Calgary, 2-1, the following game to give them a good start to their five-game home stay, but two consecutive losses against New York Rangers and Nashville Predators awaited them.
Calgary finally finished off the month with two back-to-back victories over the Colorado Avalanche and St. Louis Blues, by a decent margin.
Ending the month, they stand at the 14th number spot in the Western Conference, with a record of 4-4-1, which is not bad and not good either, but can be termed to be one of the worst in the league especially when compared to the other teams that
are also slacking.
One thing that can reassure Calgary is that Boston Bruins, the 2011 Stanley Cup champions have six points, compared to their nine, which means that there is still hope.
The month of November holds more on the road games than home ones (9 out of 14), which will obviously test their skills and prove if they really want to win or not.
