National Hockey League (NHL) Players with most responsibility in the Eastern Conference -Part 9
Being a captain of a franchise in the National Hockey League (NHL) requires great visionary skills and dedication for the sport unless there is a list of a number of failed captaincy’s, in which there is always room for addition of more names.
The next two and final players we will talk about are captains of their respective teams and are not below anyone in regards of being talented and capable for the position, but the question arises to whether these players are visionary and really want to
lead their clubs somewhere or just want to remain still in one spot.
Alex Ovechkin (Captain, Washington Capitals)
Alex Ovechkin can easily be considered to be one of the best players to have ever graced the league with his immense talent and playing abilities. There is no doubt in his name going down in history as one of the best but it will sure to have a small little
beside it because of his shortcomings which have become a little too noticeable over the past few seasons.
The Moscow, Russian native has been putting up big numbers since his induction into the league as Washington Capitals first overall selection during round-one of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft but Washington still has not been able to get anywhere near the ice
hockey championship.
It has been his sixth season with the team and having numbers on the record board like a career high of 112 points (65 goals, 47 assists) in 82 games and an overall report card of 475 games played with 614 points (301 goals, 313 assists), Ovechkin should
be winning a Stanley Cup every year.
Next season will prove to be crucial as Washington plans on renewing their ruined reputation as a choker team.
Andrew Ladd (Captain, Winnipeg Jets)
It does not happen every day that a team relocates and brings along the same captain with it. Andrew Ladd was given a chance of a lifetime by scoring a huge contract and the captaincy of the brand new Winnipeg Jets as Atlanta Thrashers were relocated up
north to Canada.
Giving Ladd credit, he does know how to play and guide a team, something which can be seen from his 59 point (29 goals, 30 assists) record last season.
Now, since all eyes will be on Winnipeg, Ladd has even a bigger responsibility next season as the team kicks off fresh.
