National Hockey League Play-offs, the greatest in all of competitive sports (Part 1)
Ice hockey is one of the most neglected sports in the world despite the fact that it was one of those games that is among the most competitive sports. It is one of those games that witnessed a great transition when the regular season ends and play-offs/quarterfinals
begin.
Each time the two competitive teams go on ice, it is sure to provide a very intense and entertaining two and a half hours display of the teams battling out hard. According to sports analysts, despite the sport not given the level of attentions that is deserved
the play-offs provide the greatest and frequent entertainment which is more than any other sport. In this article we will discuss as to why play-offs in ice hockey and NHL in particular is the greatest compared to the other sports.
The level of hockey in the play-offs when it comes to the transition of regular to play-offs
The difference in level of ice hockey is similar to flipping a coin and each time a different side comes up. The regular season require a team to not give it their all in one game and wait for the opportunity. The main concentration of the teams is to put
up consistent and on the same winning performances. When it comes to the time of play-offs, it a total test of skill and nerve.
The play-offs become even tough considering the fact that even a little mistake at the back or upfront can cost a team a place and at times even knock them out. This is the reason as to why the players have to in the best of form and be the best on ice in
play-offs which make this one of the most competitive and entertaining among all the sports.
There is no point where the players can take the game compared to other sports. For instance in basketball (NBA) and football (NFL) has several players and there are points that have to be scored. There are many points during a game. However, when it comes
to ice hockey (NHL) it is a matter of one or two moments that can define the enter outcome of the game.
The involvement of emotions during the course of a game
One of the most unique things in the NHL which isn’t present in another sport is that emotion plays a very strong role in a game. The level of emotion is said to be the same as the level of physicality and technique.
The amount of emotional effect in a game can be calculated from the fact that a player needs to show and lot of character and control to be successful. If the player comes up with bad strike then his team can suffer from a problem of playing with a man down
from three minutes, five minutes and even the entire game if he faces a straight ejection.
This is the reason that when a whistle sounds, there is a lot of anxiety about what is coming up. The benches and the players are all among the emotional ones in the Arenas as the teams win or loss depends on this.
Considering what is at stake, sometimes the players commit fouls and this is what their destiny as to whether they are out of the game or made a fair tackle. This makes the play-offs more competitive if we compare it to the NBA where a player can be replaced.
