National Hockey League Players ready to get back on ice as preseason set to begin -NHL News Update
This time, the National Hockey League (NHL) offseason felt unusually long for especially those who were either out of the Stanley Cup Finals or of the 2011 Playoffs altogether, but ask those who had to fight till the end.
For some, it was five months or more of rehabilitation of everything and recovering along with resting. Having more than enough time on their hands, teams which are not accustomed to such lengthy breaks, had their eyes set on what they could improve to have
a better run next time.
Hearing what Chicago Blackhawks team captain, Jonathan Toews, said, it becomes clear why they had such a short lived run last season following a Stanley Cup win in 2010.
"The long off-season is good for everybody to get that rest and get the time away from the game we need", Toews said recently. "I think we're all excited and eager to get going".
Now having more than enough time off, players from all teams and clubs are ready to return and make a better comeback on the ice. Everyone will be heading out with their own aspirations, which certainly makes the situation much more exciting.
"I'm definitely setting my sights on bigger things personally, not only team-wise", said Toews. "At any level I've ever played, I always wanted to be the best. I think that's what it's all about — in the end, you want to have as much of an influence and
affect on your team as you can”.
Having won a Stanley Cup recently, Boston Bruins players have had a hectic offseason with the celebrations and wild partying, making the return to reality, a little harsher on them than anyone else.
"We'll see on Thursday, maybe I'll take a day off and relax because that might be the last day off I can get for a while", said Bruins forward, David Krejci.
Completing their negotiation processes, those who remain unsigned should be hoping for successful talks soon since the preseason training is set to begin on Friday and Saturday, while the 2011-2012 regular season kicks off on October 6.
