National Hockey League Preview Roundup (Part III)
Continued from part II...
Chicago at Edmonton (9:30 p.m. ET)
Edmonton Oilers tasted success in their last game and it is the best time for the team to build on the momentum and overcome the regressing Chicago Blackhawks, which will visit them to play at the Rexall Place, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
Chicago, which indeed is a threatening side to face, is presently on a three-game streak, which could be stretched to four if the Oilers repeat the heroics they displayed to beat Colorado Avalanche.
Edmonton is ranked almost at the bottom of the National Hockey League Western Conference after 43 points in 50 games.
On the other hand, Chicago has 65 points after 51 games.
Victories in the next few games can give Chicago the top spot in the Western Conference ranking table, but they have to work really hard to recover from the slump.
Detroit at Vancouver (10.00 p.m. ET)
The two top teams of the NHL Western Conference, Detroit Red Wings and Vancouver Canucks, are going to face off at the Rogers Arena, Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada on Thursday.
Detroit is leading the conference with 69 points after 51 games while Vancouver is just below it in the same conference with 66 points after 50 games.
“It's two of the best teams in the league going at it," Canucks’ goalie, Roberto Luongo.
He added:
"Whenever there's that type of match involved, there's always going to be a lot of intensity and playoff atmosphere. Those are the fun games to be playing in."
Detroit has won eight out of its last nine games with its recent victory coming against Calgary Flames whereas Vancouver got its third straight victory by beating Chicago Blackhawks.
Dallas at San Jose (10:30 p.m. ET)
After snapping its five-game losing streak, Dallas Stars has won two straight games, which might help the team as its gets ready to face San Jose Sharks at the HP Pavilion, San Jose, California.
San Jose is ranked third in the NHL Western Conference with 62 points after 48 games.
After going three games down, Sharks recovered well by beating Calgary Flames (1-0). The recent victory against Columbus Blue Jackets (6-0) gave the exact idea of what this team is capable of doing.
On the other hand, Dallas is ranked at ninth spot in the Western Conference with 54 points after 49 points.
The last two victories came against Anaheim Ducks (one home and one away). Before these victories, Dallas had lost five games in a row.
Dallas defenseman Stephane Robidas, said after the last victory, which was more convincing than the first one, that:
“We wanted to come out strong after the break, and we've got to keep moving forward like this if we want to make the playoffs."
