National Hockey League Saturday Round up, Part II - NHL Featured
7. Tampa Bay Lightning vs Montreal Canadiens
The Tampa Bay Lightning will be looking to get a better result than the 4-1 hammering they received at the hands of the Ottawa Senators but that task will be difficult as they face the 24-time Stanley Cup winners, Montreal Canadiens.
The Canadiens have had a horrible season this year and remain out of the playoffs spot after a shocking 15-18-7 record and just 37 points. The Lightning are not much better and are tied on points with their more illustrious opponents. Tampa Bay has a 17-19-3
record but has played a game less than the Canadiens.
The Lightning will hope to snap their two game losing streak against the Canadiens but Montreal have the momentum and would want to win two games in a row for just the second time this season.
8. New Jersey Devils vs Pittsburgh Penguins
The New Jersey Devils enter this game with a brilliant 5-2 victory over Florida Panthers on Friday but winning back to back games is always difficult and the Pittsburgh Penguins will be no pushovers as they would look to end a three game losing streak.
The two points are important for both sides who are level on points in the Eastern Conference. The Penguins have the better record with 21-14-4 to occupy the sixth spot while the Devils are 22-16-2.
The Penguins however, are facing an injury crisis and the Devils will look to take full advantage of the opportunity to secure their playoff spot.
9. Colorado Avalanche vs St. Louis Blues
The Colorado Avalanche have a pedigree on the road while the St. Louis Blues boast the best home record in the NHL. Both sides will face each other on Saturday and Colorado which has won its past four games on the road will look for another victory to put
some distance between themselves and the playoff spot chasers.
The Blues are not an easy team at home with a brilliant 16-3-2 record and the Avalanche will have their work cut out. Colorado Avalanche have a 23-18-1 record and 47 points as they occupy eighth spot in the Western Conference.
10. Washington Capitals vs San Jose Sharks
The Washington Capitals have not performed as they usually do every year and do not even occupy a playoff spot. The Capitals are 21-15-2 with 44 points but have started a mini comeback with four wins in a row.
The San Jose Sharks on the other hand have been consistent with their performances occupying third spot in the Western Conference with a 22-11-4 record and 48 points.
It will be a tough game since both teams have been in good knick recently and choosing a winner between the two will be hard.
11. Carolina Hurricanes vs Nashville Predators
After securing a victory over Buffalo Sabres, Carolina Hurricanes are now gearing up for Nashville Predators, who received a crushing defeat against Dallas Stars in their last game.
As both the teams prepare to face each other at Bridgestone Arena, Nashville, Tennessee on Saturday, January 7, 2012, Shea Weber’s performance will be crucial. The Predators’ captain returned against the Stars after missing four games due to concussion,
but could not lead his team to a victory.
12. New York Islanders vs Phoenix Coyotes
New York Islanders’ three-game winning streak was snapped by Anaheim Ducks on Friday, January 6, 2012. They might have a chance to get back on their winning ways as they are now up against Phoenix Coyotes, who are on a two-game losing streak.
Both the teams will play at Jobing.com Arena, Glendale, Arizona on Saturday, January 7.
13. Minnesota Wild vs Calgary Flames
Calgary Flames are desperate to end their losing streak, which keeps on extending with every game. They have lost five consecutive games, and will give their best shot to beat Minnesota Wild, who are on a two-game losing streak.
Both teams are going to face each other on Saturday, January 07, 2012 at Scotiabank Saddledome, Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
