National Hockey League Special Report – Ottawa Senators get on the winning road defeating New York Islanders 6-4 to end their winning streak
New York Islanders hosting the 648th game of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series was another important game as they were up against the Ottawa Senators. The match was played this Thursday at the Nassau Coliseum in front of a capacity crowd
of 9,000. The match saw Ottawa Senators totally dominate the proceedings and with the strong play emerged as 6-4 winners of the match. Jesse Winchester was named the start selection of the match for his crucial goal and a brilliant assist.
Ottawa Senators made a superb start to the match firing shots right from the word go. The dominance in the play coupled with the very good combination helped the Ottawa Senators to take the lead in the very first minute. The goal was scored by Captain Daniel
Alfredsson from a decent flick shot.
Both teams adopted the attacking mentality throughout the period and with the strong plays that were on display, the New York Islanders were the next to score in the 8th minute through Trevor Gillies to level the scores.
The period heated up even further with the scores level and the puck rallying to and fro on the pitch. However, Ottawa Senators successfully took the lead once again in the 10th minute through Jesse Winchester’s goal.
There were several more goal attempts as the period ended but no further goals were scored as Ottawa Senators led 2-1 going into the break.
After a slow start to the second period, Ottawa Senators very absolutely on top of their game and dominated the period. Though the first goal of the period took some time to be scored but was finally bagged by Ottawa Senators in the 8th minute
through Milan Michalek’s flick shot.
Both teams were determined and work hard to score. New York Islanders successfully closed the gap scoring through Blake Comeau in the 11th minute. But Ottawa Senators scored in the very same minute to regain the advantage with the goal scored
by Chris Kelly.
A few minutes later, the away side scored once again through Nick Folingo to further strengthen the lead taking the score to 5-2. The attacks continued as did the goals. Ottawa completed the dominating performance of the period with the final goal scored
in the 15th minute by Zach Smith.
The period ended with Ottawa Senators leading 6-2 at the end of the second period making 17 goal attempts while New York Islanders made 9 goal attempts.
There were a few moments early in the third period when it looked as if the Ottawa Senators would further increase their lead but this didn’t happen. New York Islanders on the other hand managed to start off strongly and scored in the second minute through
PA Parenteau.
Though New York Islanders scored once again through Milan Jurcina in the 11th minute but a comeback was highly unlikely. The period and the match ended with no further goals with Ottawa Senators making 8 goal attempts in the period while New York
Islanders made 9 goal attempts. The result was a dominating win 6-4 win for the Ottawa Senators.
