National Hockey League Special Report – Tampa Bay Lightning keep clean sheet intact as they win 3-0 against the Washington Capitals

Tampa Bay Lightning hosted the 643rd game of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series as they were up against the Washington Capitals. The match was played this Wednesday with both teams playing the 44th game of their season respectively.
There were around 18,000 fans that came in support of the teams. The match wasn’t as tight as expected but much to the delight of the home fans, Tampa Bay Lightning emerged as 3-0 winners of the match. Mattias Ohlund was named the star selection of the match
for coming up with superb performance at the back which enabled the Tampa Bay Lightning to keep the clean sheet intact.
Both teams made a great start to the match which was supported by some excellent pieces of play and attacks that got the teams in scoring position regularly. There were several goal scoring opportunities for both sides early on but they failed to capitalize.
However, Tampa Bay Lightning led by Steven Stamkos up front, one of the superstars in the NHL managed to score and take the lead via Dominic Moore from a brilliant flick shot. Both teams continued to attack and scoring chances kept on keeping for both teams.
Tampa Bay Lighting successfully doubled their lead with another goal scored by Sean Bergenheim from a decent tip in shot in the 17th minute. There were a few more goal attempts made as the period neared its end but no further goals were scored
as Tampa Bay Lightning lead 2-0 at the end. During the period, Tampa Bay made 14 goal attempts while the Capitals made 9 goal attempts.
The second period was no different from the first period in fact, if we talk about the energy level than it was greater than that of the first period. After a slow start which could be categorized as cautious, both teams continued with the attacking mentality.
Chances came and went and it looked as if the period would end goalless but this wasn’t to be as Tampa bay Lightning got very strong offensively when the period was nearing its end. The home team successfully scored their goal in the 19th minute
through Simon Gagne from a well placed flick shot.
The period ended with the Tampa Bay Lightning leading 3-0. During the course of the period, Tampa Bay Lightning made 18 goal attempts while Washington Capitals made 9 goal attempts.
The final period was totally dominated by defence. After a very fast game in the first two periods, both teams kept their backlines strong which resulted in no goals being scored in the final period. Though there were occasional chances but were tough.
The period and the match ended with the Tampa Bay Lightning winning the match 3-0 with both teams making 6 goal attempts each in the final period.
One commendable thing was that the defence was on its toes throughout the match with goal keeper Dwayne Roloson and defenseman Mattias Ohlund came up with outstanding performances.
