National Hockey League Updates – Florida Panthers win 4-3 against Carolina Hurricanes after overtime

Monday witnessed another one of the games of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series as the Carolina Hurricanes played host to the Florida Panthers. This was the 582nd game of the season with both teams struggling and looking for a win this time
out. The match was played at the RBC Centre with around 17,000 fans coming to witness the match. Bryan Allen, defenseman of the Florida Panthers was named the star selection of the match after his winning goal in overtime won Florida Panthers the match 4-3.
After starting the proceedings in a decent manner, the both teams started to combine well and got past the opposing defence regularly but couldn’t score due to poor finishing. Carolina Hurricanes with the backing of the home crowd was able to come up with
a scoring chance in the 11th minute but the shot was well stopped by the goal keeper off the line.
Florida Panthers also made a few goal attempts but they too couldn’t score. However, Carolina Hurricanes took the lead as they scored through Zac Dalpe’s tip in shot in the 16th minute. The match followed the same continuity and Florida scored
in the final minute to level the scores. The goal was scored by Dennis Wideman from a powerful strike.
The second period was no different from the first period. The only difference was the fact that the goal keeper of the Florida Panthers came up with some brilliant saves and didn’t allow didn’t goals. On the other hand, the offence was very strong too that
came across several scoring opportunities.
Florida Panthers scored through Chris Higgins in the 12th minute to take the lead. Though more goals could have come but the finishing was not up to the mark. The period ended with Florida leading 2-1 and made 11 goal attempts while Carolina Hurricanes
made 12 goal attempts.
Florida continued with the dominating run into the final period. Their confidence got a boost as they scored in the 6th minute through Cory Stillman’s shot. However, Carolina managed to score with a goal from Zach Boychuk in the very next minute.
Florida was trying to control the game but the momentum had shifted and with this Carolina Hurricanes scored once again through Jay Harrison in the 10th minute to level the scores at 3-3. Carolina Hurricanes kept on piling the pressure right till
the end but didn’t score any goals which took the match into overtime.
During overtime, Bryan Allen scored for Florida Panthers in the 2nd minute as Florida won 4-3 in the end.
