National Hockey League Updates – Nashville Predators win 2-1 against the San Jose Sharks
The 620th of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series was hosted by the San Jose Sharks as they played the Nashville Predators. The match was played at the HP Pavilion Centre with 18,000 fans coming to witness the match. Pekka Rinne, goalie of the
Nashville Predators was named star selection of the match for his splendid performance in the match as he made 42 saves in the match. The match was very tight with a goal scored in each of the periods resulting in the Predators winning the match 2-1.
Both teams started off with their first play of the match being a goal attempt that nearly missed the goal respectively. The trend was followed throughout the period with both teams firing shots on goal every now and then.
San Jose Sharks started to get stronger and stronger with the passage of time but Nashville Predators caught them on a counter attack in the 14th minute to take the lead with the goal scored by David Legwand from a brilliant backhand shot.
San Jose Sharks continued to attack but didn’t score as the period ended with the Predators leading 1-0 at the end of the first period. During the course of the period Nashville Predators made 12 goal attempts while San Jose Sharks made 18 goal attempts.
The second period saw the San Jose Sharks continue with the dominating performance which resulted in them coming across scoring chances again. This time, the home team successfully scored in the 5th minute through Logan Couture to level the scores.
Both teams fired a few more shots as the period ended but there was no success and the scores were level on 1-1 at the end. During the period, Predators made 6 goal attempts while the Sharks made 11 goal attempts.
The final period was exactly similar to the first period. Nashville Predators managed to take the lead once again through Sergei Kostitsyn’s goal after which they defended. There were several occasions where the San Jose Sharks combined excellently but the
finishing at the end cost them the match. San Jose Sharks piled up shots after shots but unfortunately didn’t score and lost the match 2-1 in the end.
During the final period, Nashville Predators made 8 goal attempts while San Jose Sharks made 14 goal attempts.
