National Hockey League Updates – Phoenix Coyotes win 2-0 against the Colorado Avalanche
Colorado Avalanche hosted the Phoenix Coyotes this Thursday at the Pepsi Centre. The match was played with around 12,000 fans coming to witness the match. This was the 601st game of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series. Though the match was
won by Phoenix Coyotes 2-0 but the match was much tighter than the score line shows. It was just a case of one team being able to grab the chances while the other hand plenty of chances but they failed to convert them. Jason Labarbera of the Phoenix Coyotes
was named the star selection as he made 34 saves out of 34 shots fired towards his goal.
Both teams exploded at the start of the match as they fired shots. All they knew was how to attack and the word defence didn’t seem to exist in their dictionary. Early on both teams piled shots after shots and had their chances to take the lead.
The first goal of the period was scored in favour of the Coyotes with the goal scored by Taylor Pyatt from a brilliant backhand shot. Both teams continued to make goal attempts and added to this was the fact that they displayed some excellent passing abilities.
Despite the numerous goal attempts, the period ended with Phoenix Coyotes leading 1-0. During the course of the period Coyotes made 15 goal attempts while Colorado Avalanche made 13 goal attempts.
The second period was evenly contested between the two sides. This time out both teams concentrated on defence as well which resulted in less goal attempts in the period. Coyotes and Avalanche cancelled each other out due to the similar approach to the game.
Consequently, no goals were scored in the second period as Phoenix Coyotes led 1-0 at the end of the second period with both teams making 8 goal attempts during the 20 minutes of play.
The final was almost a reflection of the second period. This time out, there were a few more goal attempts. Goal attempts were made from everywhere on the pitch frequently. There were several occasions where it looked as if a goal would be scored but there
wasn’t any.
Both teams stepped up their game as the period neared its end. Phoenix Coyotes sealed the match scoring through Taylor Pyatt from a spectacular backhand shot in the final minute. The period and the match ended with Phoenix Coyotes winning 2-0.
During the course of the final 20 minutes of play Phoenix Coyotes made 11 goal attempts while Colorado Avalanche made 12 goal attempts.
