National Hockey League – expected award winners (Part 1)
The National Hockey League regular season is ending on the 10th of April. There have been some brilliant performances by players which have resulted in them winning the games for their respected sides. Some performances have resulted in the teams
losing from a winning position while the others have seen a team win after being in a losing position.
With less than a month left in the season, it is about time that the jury sits and decides as to which player was the most valuable and all other hardware deserving personnel in the league.
Vezina Tropy
The first and standout winner already for this trophy is Tim Thomas. He has not only come up with some brilliant performance throughout the course of the season but has done this consistently which has enabled him to be regarded as one of the best men when
it comes to goal keepers during the course of the season.
Though some of you might argue that Ondrej Pavelec might be the deserving winner of the award but the fact of the matter is that he has been one of the five worse goal tenders during the season except for the 30 games good spell he had. The last 18 games
that he has played have seen his team coming up with just four regulation time wins while he has allowed four games during each game.
Some other goal keepers like Carey Price and Henrik Lundqvist of the New York Rangers are also among the list but they are rather expected to have a fight for the second and third spots.
Tim Thomas on other hand has simply out played all of the goal keepers in the National Hockey League during the course of the 2010-11 season as he tops the saves percentage list, goals allowed list and then winning percentage. It looks as if he would win
in style and totally dominate the NHL by topping all the lists in the goal keeping department.
Vezina Runners-up
The Expected list after Tim Thomas winning the Vezina Trophy would be with Carey Price finishing as the first runner up as he has come up with some dominating performances during the season.
The second runner up is expected to be the New York Rangers goal keeper Henrik Lundqvist who also has had a decent season and keeps getting better. Lundqvist has managed to come up with nine shutout performances during the course of the season so far and
he doesn’t look to be stopping as yet.
Lundqvist has played a very important role in the Rangers winning games in and out but the recent drop in form of both the teams and the goalie have seen them dropping to the final position in the play-off cut. This is why he also has slipped down the list
of the potential candidates of winning the Vezina Trophy.
Pekka Rinne is next due to the fact that he has one of the weakest defence in the league. Despite a weak defence he has come across some decent performances which have seen him being regarded as one of the goalies of the season.
Jonathan Quick is the final inclusion in the list of the runner ups for the Vezina Trophy as he has come up with some absolutely brilliant performances. However, this season wasn’t the exact season that he wanted but still he is among the very best during
the course of the season.
