National Hockey League expected to announce 2013 Winter Classic Venue Thursday -NHL Update
It what is expected to be one of the most exciting days in the 2011-2012 National Hockey League (NHL) regular season so far is that the major league is reported to announce the next venue of the 2013 NHL Winter Classic on Thursday, February 9, 2012.
As for the latest reports, they regard the two teams as supposedly set to be announced as the participants in the major event are the Toronto Maple Leafs and Detroit Red Wings, making it one of the most highly anticipated in recent years.
Another exciting aspect would be that it is also expected to be announced to be hosting in the Red Wings city as the league has scheduled the venue of announcement as the Comerica Park at the Michigan Stadium.
Not only are the fans excited on hearing the rumours which have been spread by very reliable sources, but players are also terming it to be something great for everyone that loves hockey.
“If it’s going to happen it’ll be very exciting,” Wings’ captain, Nicklas Lidstrom, said. “They haven’t announced anything yet, but if it happens it’ll be something exciting for the fans. And to have something in this area of this magnitude will be great
for the fans.”
Both being part of the original six club has got a lot to do with the excitement as the two teams have immense history in the league as two of the most historic and great.
“I think it’s great for the fans, great for Detroit and great for the state of Michigan that they’re doing it. It’s Original Six, Toronto’s not too far, and people can drive in. It’s close to Canada. It will be a great atmosphere. There are a lot of Red
Wings fans, and a lot of Toronto fans, so if it happens, it’ll be great”, Lidstrom added.
Jimmy Howard, goalie for Detroit Red Wings, is reported to have let out the news that the event will be held at The Big House, which is the football stadium for the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
For now, rumours are the basis for these reports but are sure to be confirmed as the NHL announces it officially on Thursday.
