National Hockey League special report – Tampa Bay Lightning win 2-1 against Ottawa Senators
The 615th game of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series was hosted by Ottawa Senators as they were up against Tampa Bay Lightning this weekend.
The match was played at Scotiabank Place with an attendance of around 20,000 fans. This was the 42nd game of the season for both sides and was expected to a tough match.
It turned out to be a very tough match that saw Tampa Bay Lightning emerging as (2-1) winner of the match. Martin St. Louis was named the star selection of the match for his crucial goal.
The home team made a decent start to the match firing shots early on and coming up with decent passing. Not only this, the Ottawa Senators kept possession for quite some time, which frustrated Tampa Bay, and resulted in them making mistakes.
However, Tampa Bay Lightning managed to maintain their composure, which resulted in them dominating the game after the first half of the period. Tampa Bay could have scored a few goals but the finishing was poor.
The period saw Tampa Bay Lightning making 10 goal attempts while the Ottawa Senators made 7 goal attempts but no goals were scored with the scores deadlocked at 0-0.
Tampa Bay Lightning started the second period attacking right from the beginning of the period. Their midfield and defence were all good but the players up front kept on missing chance after chance.
This not only frustrated Tampa Bay Lightning but they started to mess up plays and the defence crumbled as the period neared its end. The result was the away side conceding a goal as the period neared its end. The goal was scored by Zach Smith from a flick
shot in the 18th minute to put the Ottawa Senators in the lead.
The period ended with Ottawa Senators making 12 goal attempts while Tampa Bay Lightning made 7 goal attempts.
Tampa Bay Lightning was able to overcome the crisis up front replacing a few men after which they looked strong up front, consistently threatening the opposing goal. Tampa Bay successfully levelled the score with a goal in the 2nd minute scored
by Adam Hall from a flick shot.
A few minutes later, Martin St. Louis scored through a brilliantly placed flick shot to put Tampa Bay Lightning in the lead. This proved to be the final goal of the match as Tampa Bay came back from a one goal deficit to win 2-1 in the end.
