National Hockey Leagues Latest – Toronto Maple Leafs win 3-2 against the Los Angeles Kings
The final game of Monday saw the Los Angeles Kings play host to the Toronto Maple Leafs. The match was played this Sunday at the Staples Centre with an attendance of around 18,000 fans that came to witness the 631st game of the 2010 Compuware
NHL Premiere Series.
Both teams were level on scores heading into the final period where Toronto Maple Leafs turned out to be more productive of the two sides to win the match 3-2 in the end. Nikolai Kulemin of the Toronto Maple Leafs was named the star selection of the match
for his all important winning goal in the final period.
A slow start to the match was observed as both teams didn’t go on the attacks with full strength. They waited for opportunities to come their way. There were of course very less occasions on which this happened therefore the early part of the period didn’t
see much happening.
However, as the period neared its end the game caught pace and attacks from both sides came up frequently. With the strong attacking and defensive lapse by the Toronto Maple Leafs, Los Angeles Kings scored through Wayne Simmonds to take the lead in the 17th
minute.
There were a few more goal attempts made but the period ended with the Kings leading 1-0 with both teams making 10 goal attempts each in the period.
Toronto Maple Leafs came out in the second period on a mission which was to score as soon as possible. The away side with the brilliant passing and shooting managed to level the score through Darryl Boyce from a quick fired shot in the 2nd minute
that caught the opposing goal keeper by surprise.
In the very next minute, Phil Kessel scored from a flick shot to put Toronto Maple Leafs into the lead. However, Los Angeles Kings managed to fight their way back into the match as they successfully scored through Michal Handzus from a tip in shot to level
the scores in the 15th minute.
The period ended with the scores level on 2-2 with Toronto Maple Leafs making 12 goal attempts while the Los Angeles Kings made 7 goal attempts.
Toronto Maple Leafs again started off the final period strongly and scored through Nikolai Kulemin in the 5th minute to take the lead. After this, Toronto Maple Leafs switched to defensive mode. There were dozens of shots fired by Los Angeles
Kings but they failed to score during the period.
In the end, Toronto Maple Leafs emerged as 3-2 winners of the match despite Los Angeles Kings making 17 goal attempts in the final period compared to the 9 goal attempts of the Toronto Maple Leafs.
