NRL round 25: Warriors embarrass Broncos
The New Zealand Warriors ran over the Brisbane Broncos at home in Mt. Smart Stadium over the weekend.
The Warriors proved to be too much for the Broncos to handle, as they walked over the Brisbane side at home. The Warriors got off to an impressive start and did not look back, taking a startling 24 point lead into halftime. After the break the Warriors kept the pressure on limiting the Bronco to only one try and won by a final score of 36-4.
Recap
The Warriors got the scoring started in the 13th minute with a try from Manu Vatuvei, giving the home side a quick 4-0 lead.
The home team was able to keep the pressure on as Lewis Brown darted over the line twice with tries in the 21st and 25th minutes respectively. James Maloney was able to pass a conversion through and the Warriors were off to a quick 14-0 lead.
However, the hosts were not done, as Simon Mannering worked his way over the whitewash only four minutes later pushing the lead out to 18-0.
Lance Hohaia forced his way over the try-line for the New Zealanders in the game’s 36th minute and after Maloney put through his second conversion of the day the Warriors were able to take a 24-0 score into halftime.
After the break the onslaught continued, with a second try from Hohaia in the 49th minute, which Maloney tacked extra points on to, as the Warriors continued to embarrass the Broncos, now with a 30-0 lead.
Ben Matulino added insult to injury with a try in the 58th minute and after Maloney registered his fourth conversion of the day the Warriors had a 36-0 lead.
Jharal Yow Yeh was able to muscle his way over the whitewash in the game’s 77th minute, however that was all the visitors could muster in a very one sided affair.
Analysis
The Warriors registered an important victory and with only one game left in the season are guaranteed a play-off spot. The New Zealand side is also only sitting two points away from obtaining home field advantage and will be interested in building upon last weeks game in their attempt to secure the advantage.
Meanwhile the Broncos will be forced to win in their final week of the season if they have any hope of qualifying for the play-offs. Now two points out of the Canberra Raiders for eighth spot the Broncos will need to win big in round 26 to make the post-season.
