National Sports Institute satisfied with training stint at Bath for the 2011 World Championships
Malaysia’s National Sports Institute (NSI), is quite satisfied with their national team’s training stint at the University of Bath, ahead of the 2011 World Championships starting from August 8, in England.
Wong Ah Jit, the representative of NSI, said that the centralised training camp in Bath is worth the money which is being spent on the national squad for the preparation of the World Championships. The centralised training camp is set to end today and the
total cost of this 10-day training camp was RM 53,000 (£11,000).
This amount was spent on transportation, accommodation of players and also for the use of the training and fitness facilities at the gymnasium of the University of Bath.
While talking about the budget and training facilities for the Malaysian squad at Bath, Wong Ah said, “It’s a reasonable sum considering that all the facilities are within the range. All the players stayed at the university hostel, which was comfortable.”
He further added, “We were charged less than £30 a room. The host were hospitable and the Malaysian team were treated well. I am happy to get all the good feedbacks from the players and coaches. This centralised training will surely benefit them.”
National shuttlers who have been training at this 10-day training camp at Bath are World Number One, Lee Chong Wei, Tan Boon Heong, Koo Kien Keat, Hoon Thien How, Mohd Zakry Abdul Latif, Chan Peng Soon, Lim Khim Wah, Wong Pei Tty, Chin Eei h*i, Ng h*i Ern,
Ng h*i Lin, Sabrina Chong, Ong Jian Guo and Goh Liu Ying.
The Malaysian officials for the team at the World Championships include Rashid Sidek, Tey Seu Bock, Jeremy Gan, Rexy Mainaky and Pang Cheh Chang. Many shuttlers of the national squad who could not qualify for the World Championships attended the training
camp at Bath, to assist their higher ranked players in the training.
NSI is satisfied with the Bath training stint and is optimistic that this 10-day training will help shuttlers in playing top-class badminton and obtaining good results at the World Championships.
