Question:

National Topless day - Do you think it is about equality?

I have to say I don't. I think that men would only support it to see free knockers. If most of us don't want cat calls while we walk down the street then why would we want the right to walk around topless? I wouldn't want my little kids to see such things. I also don't want to see most of the men that go topless; let alone the women that would opt for this. I have been to topless-optional beaches and the first person to bear all is the last one you want to see bearing it.

Do you think for real equality we should have a National Put Your Friggin Shirt Back On Day!

  1. I just can't help wondering what harm you think would come to your children from seeing "such things" as b*****s.

    Are they that terrifying?

That's actually part of the point of such demonstrations. b*****s aren't deadly weapons.

Although in many places, men's toplessness is not acceptable, it IS different for women, and for no good reason.

You talk about your reaction to seeing less aesthetically-pleasing people baring parts -- the idea that only pretty people should be allowed to live is morally disgusting. When one goes to a topless beach, then one should be able to shed one's top. If you're unwilling to view the absolutely deathly horror of women's b*****s, then you shouldn't go to topless beaches.

Yes, it's about equality; and about moving to a more clothing optional society.

It's not inherently immoral to not wear clothes; it's an arbitrary rule that you have internalized; yet you bring a moral outrage to it. I just wanted to point out to you, that human bodies are not inherently horrific and deadly.

  2. It is about equality.  Just because YOU don't want to go topless doesn't mean that another woman doesn't want to.  Just because YOU don't want to see women topless doesn't mean a woman should be forced to keep her top on at a beach.  YOUR opinion and YOUR moral compass should not be a reason to stop the equality between women and men.  And so what if children see it?  If you don't want them to see topless women or men, don't take them to the beach.  Why must WE conform to your standards and desires?  Europe seems to be doing just fine with topless beaches.

I think you have a very selfish point of view.  YOU don't want to have to look at it so you want everyone else to conform and cover up for your benefit.  Its just a body, after all!  I don't see what the big deal is.  If you don't want to look at it, look the other way.  If you don't want to be whistled at (if this were to happen if a woman went topless at a beach) then don't go topless.

But don't stop other men and women from making their own personal choices about their own body.

  3. LOL, I agree, it is not about equality, but instead probably about men wanting to women's breast for free without having to pay any money or without feeling any guilt for their other half.  Yes, it would seem that the only ones wanting to take it all off are the very ones you would wish kept it all on!  LOL  =P

yes perhaps we should have a National Put Your Fudggin Shirt Back On Day!

  4. Actually, I think the issue itself has everything to do with equality.  While I agree that no one needs or should be topless in a public place, other than a beach, it is highly discriminatory that it is legal for men to do so and not women.  It should have nothing to do with who you want to see topless - its all about an individual's rights.

And, for the record, in places where it is legal, you would be hard pressed to find a topless woman.

  5. Of course it is, unless you want to restrict women's freedom based on what you would chose to do.  Is feminism only about choice when it's one you happen to agree with?

Why shouldn't women have the same choice men have?

You say you don't mind seeing some of the men.  Maybe we don't mind seeing some of the women.

  6. Personally, I could care less if people go to nude beaches, nude camp sites or what they wear at home.

My own preference is that everyone (including all males) wear a top in any area that is not their own private property or immediately located next to a beach, swimming pool or designated 'nude' area.

It looks low class and attention seeking to go bare chested in a city street, imo.

Regarding 'National Topless Day' I doubt these folks are fighting for the right of my 100 year old grandmother, or anyone who's over 25 and 'perky' to parade about with it all 'hanging out'.

Baba Yoga has hit the knocker, so to speak, on this 'issue'.

    Cheers :-)

  7. Who said you have to participate in it? Would it not be voluntary?

  8. No its about sexual exposure IMO.

  9. Just to play devils advocate ...

Ever considered that the current view of the human body is heavily biased by religion? And that it may not actually have to the perception currently held? Granted tho it may be better come the winter time to have clothing.

Ever considered that although men (and some women) may whistle etc. at  women without tops on, when none of them have any tops on they may have to many choices to actually choose from? Or may be physically sick from really nasty droopys ones? (hey - I said devil in there ...)

    Ok ... enough sillyness.

While the perspective maybe one born of religion - it is also one of this culture and I have no issues with it. I don't think a national topless day is going to bring any benefits other encouraging a society lacking in morels to drop them further below the belt.

  10. Perhaps we should all go naked.  Men have a lot more to hide in their swimsuit then women.  Also their parts are more delicate and fragile.

  11. I am sure you are right about the men wanting to see knockers.  I would certainly support Put Your Friggin shirt Back on Day, I think it is an excellent idea.

  12. "I don't want my kids to see it."

Basically, you're telling them the human body is a sin and should be covered at all times.  That sounds like you're setting them up to dress like tramps and whores when they hit their teens.  How about saying, "b*****s are just like arms, are like legs, are like feet."  You should love your body and not sexualize every single part of it.

And you're not forced to see it.  If I see a hairy fat guy with no shirt on, I look away.  You may do the same.

  13. No, it's only about young, perky brist.  Only.  Nothing else.

  14. Are you talking about the dudes that are fat and furry with b***s when you state,"and the first person to bear all is the last one you want to see bearing it."

It is about a free peek at b***s. Too bad it will more than likely be the old sagging b***s of a hippie. I agree with the clothed policy unless you have privacy.

  15. shut up. just let them hang out. au natural
