Commonly called “Tony”, the 6 ft 6 inches tall bowler served his former club T&T for 9 years in the capacity of Under-19 coach.
Gray’s reign has been quite fruitful, as under his coaching, the team won 5 three-day and one-day titles. Out of these 10 victories, 8 titles were won in consecutive years.
It was reported on Saturday, June 25, 2011, by the TTCB’s vice-president, that Gary would not be coaching the under-19 team anymore. VP Dudnath Ramkessoon had further revealed that Tony’s unavailability forced them to take this decision and seek his alternative.
Dudnath also expressed his resentment over Gray’s unavailability as the team has to leave for the regional tournament on July 16, 2011 and is without a coach. With less than a month’s time remaining, the board was forced to hasten the appointment of Tom’s
replacement.
Gary who is currently in Houston, Texas, denied the news about his unavailability
"I'm available to coach the Under-19 team. I was very willing. I was in Houston, Texas when I saw the report that I was unavailable. It was a misleading statement since I was available to coach the Under-19 team."
According to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Thomas-George-Burrows-c93472he former T&T pacer, the real issue is not the availability but the dispute over his salary package. The former coach admitted that he had demanded a reasonable session to session increase in his salary but was denied by the Trinidad and Tobago
Cricket Board.
“They did not accept the proposal. I was told that the request could not have been accommodated,” revealed Tony.
Ramkessoon (TTCB’s VP) also confirmed yesterday, "We could not agree on the terms. It was unfortunate that we could not come to an agreement on his involvement".
The record breaking under-19 coach was disappointed with how he has been treated by the board and said that he deserved better.
