National Youth Beach Volleyball Team of Brazil starts work with new coach – Volleyball news
As the 2012 FIVB Beach Volleyball Youth World Championships are coming up in July, the youth teams all over the world are getting ready for action.
In this connection, the Brazilian Volleyball Federation (BVF) has made some substantial changes in the coaching staff of its youth beach volleyball team.
A former Olympic gold medallist, Jackie Silva, has been appointed as the new head coach of Brazilian national youth beach volleyball team. Silva is also from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and had a wonderful career from 1980 to 2004. She officially took over the
command of youth team last week as BVF was more than happy to hire her services for the benefit of team.
Silva was also glad at the amazing opportunity of sharing her knowledge with the young crop of players and happily accepted the role of head coach.
After joining the team, she shared her feelings in the following manner, “Being with young athletes in this wonderful place and together with the Brazilian Volleyball Federation makes me excited.”
Initially, Silva was brought to the development centre in Saquarema, Aryzao, where she was introduced with the players and team staff. Currently, there are 13 players of ages between 14 to16 in Brazil’s national youth team.
Team roster includes Mariana Chaia, Ana Carolina Santos, Isabela Ghetti, Ana Luiza Mohr, Paula Hoffman, Lais Vasques, Amanda Fillipo, Victoria Baptista, Thais Vieira Simões, Drussyla Andressa Felix Costa, Eduarda Santos Lisboa, and Beatriz Vieira.
The team spent four days in training with the new coach in Saquarema last week, where the experienced Silva helped the players to polish their skills. After the training session, she disclosed her views about the team-line.
She stated, “The most important thing for now is to know what level these players are at. They are all very young and it is essential that they know their own weaknesses. We will call them again and make a new evaluation. All these players are going to be
followed by us for years.”
She further added that some of them will get the chance to represent the country this season, while the others will have opportunities in the coming years.
The 2012 FIVB Beach Volleyball Youth World Championships will take centre stage in Larnaca, Cyprus from July 11 to 14.
