My husband and I live in the Netherlands but are from England and Canada. We would like to adopt but are concerned on how this would work?

If we want to adopt nationally would this be harder as we may want to move some time?

  1. well if you want to adopt you will need to stay home until the child/baby comes from the airport and you collect Him/her. If you want to move around the country as in go on a holiday go before you start to adopt or after so you can take your child with you. The best adoption place is in your own country but it is up to you where and when you want to adopt.

    Hope i helped

  2. It depends on what country you are claiming citizenship from, and their laws.  In most countries, there are home study laws, and sometimes there are more than 1 court hearings after the child arrives, either in your care, or into the world being born.  In the USA, Arkansas, we had a hearing shortly after our son's birth, and one six months afterwards again.  We had to remain in the same residence for our home study before, during and after the first hearing, and we will have to have the same address to receive his birth certificate, final adoption papers.  You will need a lawyer very in tune for adoption, and in international laws.  It might help to go to a big firm in a larger city and ask the specifics from them, but plan on being in 1 spot for at least 2 years to find a child, get it adopted, and court hearings, home study, etc.  Good luck, and a child is soooooo worth the wait.

  3. Regardless of your nationality, if you are not resident in the country you want to adopt from you will be in for a long process.  It would most likely be considered an international adoption, not because of your nationality but because of where you are living.  It's considered that way because the child will be leaving the jurisdiction of the court that will be doing the adoption (ie: leaving Canada to go to the NL)

I know that, for example, within Canada you cannot live in Ontario and adopt from Alberta.  You need to be living in the Province where the adoption will be processed, in most cases the province where the child resides.

My wife and I were living in India 15 years ago and we adopted our oldest daughter.  In our case the adoption was done IN India because we were resident there.  If we were resident in Canada it would have been an international adoption.

I would suggest that you should check with the Cdn (or Brit) Embassy in the NL and get their advise.  Either way, good luck and God bless.
