National coach Tan Kim Her believes Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong will deliver at London Olympics
Malaysia’s Men’s Doubles coach Tan Kim Her believes that country’s top shuttlers Koo Kien Keat and Tan Boon Heong will live up to the expectations at the upcoming London Olympics considering the commitment and dedication both shuttlers are showing in training
sessions at Bath, England.
Though Kien Keat and Boon Heong, who have been positioned at number eight in the world in Men’s Doubles category, have been showing quivering performance for the last couple of years but according to Kim Her, they have shown a considerable improvement in
their game and also in their attitude.
Kim Her expressed that among the top pairs including Korea’s Chung Jae Sung-Lee Yong Dae, China’s Fu Haifeng-Cai Yun and Denmark’s Carsten Mogensen-Mathias Boe, who are all positioned at the top three slots in Men’s Doubles world rankings, the last pair
is vulnerable for Malaysians as compared to other two pairs.
Kien Keat and Boon Heong have good record against Danish shuttlers as they are leading with 7-4 margin in their head-to-head meetings.
However, the Malaysian shuttlers have worst possible record against the World Number One Jae Sung and Yong Dae with a 1-12 record in their 13 head-to-head meetings.
Things become even uncertain for Kien Keat and Boon Heong as they have lost three consecutive times to World Number Three Mogensen and Boe in their last three meetings.
The quivering Kien Keat and Boon Heong lost to their Danish rivals in their last couple of meetings in a completely one-sided fashion which makes it difficult for them to get back at their best when they face the Danes again at Olympics.
Nevertheless, the coach is optimistic that Kien Keat and Boon Heong will bring good results in mega event.
He said, “It’s true that Boe-Mogensen have won the last two meetings convincingly because Kien Kean-Boon Heong really weren’t up to the task then. But, Kien Keat-Boon Heong have been really impressive since arriving in Bath and I believe they have a realistic
shot at a medal if they can get it during the tournament.”
Kien Keat and Boon Heong are working to their maximum potential in training sessions to forget their bad memories of the past and to prove their worth at the upcoming London Olympics.
