National coach Tey Seu Bock says Daren Liew needs to be more aggressive on court like Lee Chong Wei
Malaysia’s Singles national coach, Tey Seu Bock said that Daren Liew needs to be more aggressive on court like the world’s best player in the Men’s Singles category, Lee Chong Wei.
Daren, who has been placed at Number 45 in the Men’s Singles world rankings, is an emerging star of Malaysia as has shown glimpses of excellence which indicate that he can replace Chong Wei in the near future.
Seu Bock wants Daren to improve his skills while playing with Chong Wei in training sessions. He is set to play with the World Number One, Chong Wei as a sparring partner. The coach said that Daren needs to be more confident and aggressive while playing
matches in any tournament, and the shuttler can learn this trait from Chong Wei.
The coach said, “Daren is not tough enough on court. He has to change his attitude and be more aggressive like Chong Wei. Chong Wei is really committed to help Daren. If Daren continues with his determination to change for the better, I believe he has a
chance to challenge for a medal at the Indonesia SEA Games.”
Daren has achieved the best world ranking so far in his professional career, as he has never achieved this position before. His good performance during the last few months has earned him this status and he is bridging the gap between him and top shuttlers
in the world of badminton.
Seu Bock also wants the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) to send Daren with Chong Wei in all international events for one year, as it will help him to learn a lot from the top seed. The coach wants to forward this request to Rashid Sidek, the chief
coach of Singles category.
Seu Bock said, “Let him be Chong Wei’s shadow in the next one year. I want him to learn as much as possible from the best player in the world.”
Now, Daren will train with Chong Wei on a regular basis as the coaches have decided to make him a permanent sparring partner to the World Number One.
