National coach Tey Seu Bock says Lee Chong Wei is in good form and capable to maintain it
Malaysia’s Tey Seu Bock, the Men’s Singles national coach says that the World Number One Lee Chong Wei is back on the right track and is capable of maintaining his form until the 2012 Olympic Games.
The coach said that Chong Wei’s two consecutive victories at the Korea Open Premier Super Series and Malaysia Open Super Series have proved that he is in good shape.
Seu Bock also said that these two back-to-back wins will certainly boost the confidence of Chong Wei and will help him in defending his title in the 2012 All England Open Premier Super Series, which will kick off from March 6-11, in Birmingham, England.
Chong Wei’s impressive performance in the opening two events of current year has made him favourite for the gold medal at London Olympics.
The World Number One has been playing impressive badminton in the previous year but failed to deliver well in the concluding months and lost many matches to China’s Chen Long and Lin Dan in different events.
However, he has got rid of his bad patch now and is back on the winning track.
While talking about Chong Wei’s physical condition, Seu Bock said that he is not at his best but he still has the ability to beat the top Chinese shuttlers.
Seu Bock said, “He is definitely not in top condition yet but winning the Korea and Malaysia Opens shows that he is still very much capable of beating both Lin Dan and Chen Long. He has proven that he deserves respect on court and his early good form has done his confidence a world of good leading up to the Olympics in July.”
He also added, “But although he is in good shape to win his third All-England and, perhaps, the Olympic gold, he can’t slacken because I believe China will be attempting to disrupt his focus.”
Chong Wei’s next target is to maintain his top position in All England Open, where he will be defending champion. In this tournament, all top shuttlers will meet again to gain precious ranking points for getting a good position in the 2012 Olympic Games.
