Question:

National guard housing allowance?

I am in the ANG going to BCT then AIT in October... I still have my lease and I plan to keep my apartment, because I still plan on living there when I come back from training. My girlfriend still lives there along with my dog. My girlfriend cannot handle the rent and bills by herself, and the pay while I am in training isn't going to be enough to pay for all the expenses. Is there an allowance that I can get to pay for my rent and bills while I am active duty in training?

  1. you do not qualify for BAH as a single  servicemember in the Guard.  housing is being provided to you while in training.

  2. Just in case the responses here have put the thought into your mind:

    Don't get married for BAH!!!

  3. I'll put it this way.  I'm also in the National Guard and I'm doing extra MOS training right now in Virginia and I AM receiving BAH.  My admin NCO told me to just fax him a notarized copy of my lease form and he would send it off somewhere (not sure where...maybe NGB) and if I qualified (I repeat; IF I qualified) I would get BAH added to my LES.  And I'm getting it.  Maybe my unit is doing something they're not supposed to be, but I don't know about that.  It might be different for you because you haven't been to Basic and AIT yet, but you should probably contact the unit you're being assigned to and see what they can do for you.  And I'm a single soldier by the way.  And I'm getting three free meals a day.  And they put me up in a hotel room while I'm here (AIT is barracks only dude, sorry).  But anyway Good luck

  4. You will be paid your basic pay. Nothing else, unless you have dependents, either a wife children or both.

If you have any paid vacation or sick time coming from your current employer you can ask if they will allow you to use that time and at least receive a pay check for a period of time while you are gone. You can cut off the cable and other extras until you return or at least ask if they will suspend service while you are gone. I think there are some phone cell phone companies that allow you to suspend service and only pay $10 a month until you reinstate service.

  5. You are authorized BAH even when you are single at certain times. The problem you have is you are single and when you go away for training the army is giving you a place to live, therefore you will not qualify for BAH unless you are married.

  6. No, unless are you married or has a dependent  , you won't get any bah in training, because they provided you everything you need (place to stay and food)  GF is not consider dependent ; dependent   is someone like your wife, kid in your custody or parent who is heavy depend on your income.
