  1. National Insurance is worked out on a weekly basis. If you earn £105 or less per week, then you will not pay NI.

You may have PAYE Income Tax deducted too. Tax and NI are worked out completely differently from each other. It won't be much tho. It depends what tax code you have. If this is your first job since 06 April 2008, and is your only job, then you shouldn't be taxed at all until you have earnt over £5,435. This is only until 05 April 2009, because then it all changes again.

I think, if you only do the Saturdays, you have nothing to worry about, until the last few weeks of March next year, when you may start paying tax, or if you start doing more hours.

    Any probs, let me know.

  2. If your employer is doing his job correctly, you won't suffer any deductions on tax or NIC on those rates. Any problems, contact tax office, and ask for formal code number to be issued.

  3. No way! Not until your doing 20 hours or more.

  4. No. You are only earning £22/week or £1,144/year. The earning threshold for tax and NI is around £5,000 per year so you can earn up to that amount without paying any tax or NI.
