I am considering using Nationwide Tax Relief to assist with an IRS issue. Has anyone ever used them and if so what was your experience. Thank you.

  1. I agree with Bostonian.

The firms that advertise on TV tend to be good at only one thing:  Separating you from your money.

Contact a CPA or EA in your local area and explain your situation.

  2. I actually hired Nationwide Tax Relief in 2006. I had been burned back in 04 by another scam tax company, but after much research I thought they would be my best choice. The tax attorney who handled my case had an ego and was kind of abrasive, but very good at keeping the IRS off my back. They had to prepare and file many years of back tax returns for me, so my case took longer than I expected, but I got roughly 50% of my tax debt reduced through the IRS program called Offer in Compromise. My attorney was good with emails that kept me in the loop along the way. Nationwide helped me and I have referred others to them and have not heard any bad things.

  3. If you you can't afford to pay your back taxes then your situation is complicated enough that you don't want to handle it over the phone.  Find a good local CPA or EA, they will cost more than a tax preparer but be much cheaper than one of the TV companies and you can sit across from his desk and show him your documents.

BTW offers in compromise aren't likely to be approved.

  4. Don't waste your money on those ripoffs, or any of the others that advertise on cable or talk radio.  Find a local CPA or EA who specializes in Offers in Compromise.  It will cost you less and you'll get better service.  Bear in mind that less than 25% of OICs are ever accepted by the IRS and the IRS has up to 2 years to consider your offer, during which time you MUST continue to make payments.

Contrary to the actor in their ad, no self-respecting CPA would EVER refer you to an outfit like that.  And your application does NOT "stop the IRS cold" as claimed!
