Nationwide Tour Championship: Power Rankings.
The Nationwide Tour Championship will start on October 28th in South Carolina. Only the top 60 on the money list will make it to the championship. Out of the sixty players, the top 25 players will attain their PGA playing card for 2011. The last
tournament of the Nationwide Tour has really got all the players struggling to show their best. With everyone trying so hard, the competition is bound to get more furious.
The player ahead of all in the rankings is David Mathis. Ranked number one on the power rankings, Mathis won the Winn-Dixie Jacksonville Open presented by Planters at the TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach Florida on Sunday. He became the 24th
winner in 28 events on Tour this season. This was the final full field event of the season and winning it was quite an accomplishment. This triumph skyrocketed Mathis from 35th to the 12th position on the money list. This news obviously
assured the player of a spot on the PGA Tour next season.
After the game on Sunday, Mathis said that God has given him a chance to earn out there. The star of the show did clear it out that even though he loves the sport, golf doesn’t define who he is. He said he likes playing golf for a living but it isn’t who
he is.
Another person in the limelight is the Australian player Won Joon Lee. Lee tied in second place at Jacksonville on Sunday and is also ranked number two. He’s been posting a second-place finish on Tour each of the last three seasons. On Sunday, Lee moved
from 66th spot to 33rd spot. Lee said that he enjoyed his time on the Nationwide tour but it’s about time he works hard and truly reaches his potential. Looking at the way he is going, the PGA might not be very far from him.
Next up is Jamie Lovemark, whose power ranking is number three. He’s one of the ‘special’ players since he is leading the money list at the moment. Even though Lovemark tied for the 59th position on Sunday, he is very consistent in being on the
top of the money list. Being the youngest player on the Nationwide Tour, Lovemark is still ahead of everyone financially. He had a great season this year and his win in the Mexico Bicentenary Open really helped his efforts. When asked how important it was
to him to finish Number one on the money list, he said it was very important and it will open many doors for him. He said that out of his first season as a pro, he wanted to finish the year as number one on the money list and he has achieved it. Lovermark
is very happy with the way he played and all he has earned.
Ranked number fourth in the PGA power rankings is Jeff Curl. Curl is playing very well right now, and is sure to make headlines after the championship on Sunday. Last Sunday in Jacksonville, Curl tied second and also tied for 23rd and had two
straight T5’s. This is a pretty decent performance considering it’s a late season run. He leaped from the 81st position to 54th position on the money list this week. An improvement of this sort is noteworthy and it clearly shows what
Curl is capable of.
Next, Jason Gore earned his seventh career Nationwide title when he won the Miccosukee Classic. Jason started the day with some bogeys, but secured victories due to the birdies he posted. Considering he’s at number 41 at the moment, a win in the championship
could definitely put him in the top 25 and hence back on the Tour for 2011.
Overall, the finale of the Nationwide Tour has players and their fans excited. The Tournament director, Kevin Canning, said this event is sure to be an enjoyable one. Along with golf, the audience will be entertained by daily entertainment, happy hours,
drink specials and even college football. The Nationwide Tour Championship will tee off tomorrow at Daniel Island.
