  1. As you didn't mention any period of time, here is a mix of proven classics (to provide background) together with more recent studies.

    For a Native America classic, see "Stone Age in North America" by Warren K. Moorehead, 1910.

    Arguably a soon to be classic: "Skull Wars: Kennewick Man, Archaeology, and the Battle for Native American Identity" by David Hurst Thomas, New York: Basic Books, 2000.

    As "Historical Dictionary of North American Archaeology" by Edward B. Jelks is only affordable for institutions, check it out at your local bookstore, library or university. It will provide ideas for further reading. http://www.amazon.ca/Historical-Dictiona...

    FYI: "A Chronology of North American Archaeology" is listed here: http://www.mnsu.edu/emuseum/archaeology/...

    Regarding the mid-East, Albright’s "From the Stone Age to Christianity" (1940) is still considered to be a classic text. (Interestingly, some archeological sites noted are only now being excavated.)

    "Philistines: Giving Goliath His Due" by Neal Bierling, 1992

    "The Cambridge Illustrated History of Archaeology",  Paul G. Bahn, Cambridge University Press, 1996

    This interesting web page, "Top Ten Archaeological Discoveries of the Twentieth Century Relating to the Biblical World" by Keith N. Schoville, provides suggestions for related books: http://biblicalstudies.info/top10/schovi...

    Happy reading!

  2. Don't know about the NA's but here are some books/authors which we used in class for mesopotamia:

    Roux- Ancient Iraq

    Pritchard- called Mesopotamia or something like that.

    Penquin Books also has a good selection of books on ancient cultures.

    And if you are interested in Israel; I suggest

    Israel Finlkestein's the bible unearthed

    and Eric Cline's Battles of Armageddon {prob anything by him would be good}

  3. i suggest you go to these sites for all books on archaeology:

    Eisenbrauns: near east and anatolia

    Oxbow Books: all archaeological subjects
