Native American Spirit?

Question

OK, hear is a question that I have been holding on to for like 20 years. Is there an old native american spirit that looks like a narrow deformed small cow or huge deformed dog with black matted fur and a long head? I know there are a lot of old stories told about supernatural beings that have been passed down. If this thing is in any of the stories it is real or someone was trying to scare me as I seen it when I was young and stupid. Anything you can tell me about this would be great to hear.

Sounds like a Yeti...  Cannibalistic humanoids that chase down and eat people in the woods.  Fearsome critters, hard to kill.

Also could be a skin walker, they put on the skins of animals and become the skinniest buggers of that type.  Think dear skinandbones no flesh or muscle.  They are some bad ones too, can take out an entire village if they get mad.

It may be a Shunka Warakin. Do a yahoo or google image search on that (I don't use links) and see if that's what you saw.
