Question:

Native Americans as endangered species? Funny article?

I once read a really funny letter sent by a Native American group to some government agency, arguing that American Indians technically qualified as endangered species and should be protected by the government.

I think it was printed in a magazine, and along with it was printed the response from the government - an equally funny, sarcastic reply about why Indians couldn't be qualified as endangered species.

Does anyone know where this came from? My teacher, several years, said it might have come from Harpers, but he wasn't sure. I read the article, I think, in 2001 or 2002.

  1. I'm not sure where you read this but what you read is true.  In fact all Americans (Anglo) have a negative birth rate, so I guess we all should be put on the endangered species list one day.

  2. Unfortunately the American Indian like many other endangered species became endangered because of man. In the late 1800's 'ethnic cleansing' was used on them by the citizens of this country. You could turn in scalps for bounty money. It is the most massive case of ethnic cleansing in recorded history and is not funny in the least. I'm sure the Indian who wrote the story knew this as all American Indians know the story sometimes linked to 'The trail of tears.'

  3. Uhm, it's not funny. IT"S TRUE. They had thi land first and europeans came and took it away, pushing them into their national parks. Way to go, you the most unpatriotic b*****d I'v ever met online. thanks for the 2 points.

BTW: we're lucky that they don't go crazy and start killing us...

  4. Endangered a bit still, but growing at a faster arte than the other ethnic groups in the U.S.
