Native English speakers, is this sentence correct:?

"I'm sure China would do a great job holding the football world cup. But there will be other contenders, such as Portugal/Spain"

(By contenders, I mean 'applicants'. Coukld 'bidder' work?)

  1. Yes, that's fine. In every sense, it's not gramatically correct but don't worry about that. All your words are spelled right and the sentences are perfectly understandable. And I think "contenders" is better than "bidders".  


  2. 'But' probably shouldn't come after a full stop.  

  3. Instead of but, try the word "however". Otherwise it looks good.  :)

  4. You don't start a sentence with a preposition. How about: Could there be other contenders such as Portugal and Spain?

    I think contenders sounds better than bidder. Contenders is usually heard when talking about a competition so I think it is appropriate.

    I'm sure China would do a great job holding the football world cup.  However; other contenders such as Portugal/Spain must be considered.

  6. Yes, 'contenders' is fine.

    Technically, 'bidders' is okay too but it might sound better to say "However there will be others bidding too, such as Portugal/Spain".
