  1. I just found out that a whole field of study is devoted to this and it's called iridology.

    The website below can explain it much better than I can, so give it a go.

    I find myself agreeing with the concept. A Chinese medicine doctor once told me that he could tell how my liver was by looking at my irises(which looked as if I perpetually roll my eyes up, but not as extreme as it sounds).

    I find that when my diet is healthier and I exercise more, plus take a regular liver-supplement, that my eyes are more centred than before.

  2. Everything your ND told you could be caused by slow or faulty kidney functioning, especially the rashes and inflammation.  Did your ND also use pulse diagnosis?  I have found oily skin and hair to be more about diet and about liver/gall bladder function, however.  Usually, whenever I am seeing a client w/ acne, rashes, oily skin and hair, this tells me their diet and lifestyle need some massive work, especially if there is cystic acne.  If you are seeing rashes on the mid-back over the kidney/adrenal area, on the inner thighs, over the torso, I would be inclined to think and to say your ND is correct.  If the rashes are more on the face, neck and upper back and are accompanied by pimples, lots of oil, greasy skin, cystic acne, as I've said, I'd look at liver function more.

    As kidneys speak to the water element/balance in the body, and as kidneys, bladder, adrenals, sexual organs are all on the same meridian, one would expect to find issues of swelling or edema, adrenal depletion and allergies w/ dark circles under the eyes as a sure sign this particular meridian is weak or depleted, oftentimes asthmatic tendencies, yes, rashes, dry or scaly skin and itchiness, being cold all the time, and either excessive or not frequent enough urination with dark, smelly urine as all being symptoms of kidneys not functioning well.  There are many other additional symptoms.  You can go online or speak w/ your practitioner about them.

  3. I'm sorry, but i have no knowledge of iridology and can't really advise you there.

    Recurring inflammatory conditions, such as gastroinestinal inflammation, arthritis etc... and unexplained skin rashes can be a symptom of having a delayed allergic reaction to foods that you are eating ....... immediate food allergies give prompt and dramatic evidence of their presence..... delayed food allergies, on the other hand, can be more subtle and difficult to recognise.......... keep a detailed food journal and record the foods you eat and how you feel throughout the day to enable you to recognise the symptoms of a delayed food allergy....... could be milk and dairy products or wheat or even the sugar contained in high sugar fruits such as oranges, apples, bananas, mangoes .

    Other symptoms of delayed food allergies are ~

    Chronic digestive problems, including the symptoms of IBS;

    Recurring infections such as sinusitis, tonsilitis, ear, respiratory, urinary and so forth;

    Chronically swollen glands;

    Difficulty losing excess weiht;

    Unexplained bouts of severe fatigue after eating;

    Tendency to hold water that is not associated with the menstrual cycle;

    Dark circles under your eyes (sometimes called allergic shiners);

    Frequent stuffy nose or postnasal drip that lasts for several hours after meals; also clearing your throat frequently after eating;

    Anxiety and heart palpitations withing several hours of eating;

    history of gallbladder disease;

    history of acne;

    history of antiobiotic use;

    Mental fogginess after eating;

    Bouts of low blood sugar;

    headaches ............... read a book called "What your Doctor May Not Tell you About IBS" by Richard N. Ash, M.D. and eliminate your symptoms and live a pain free, drug free life ..

    Ditch the milk and dairy products i say ....  you may even find that you are also intolerant to wheat products also as they usually go hand in hand........ many many people find it extremely hard to digest lactose contained in milk and dairy products.

    Eat  organic brown rice and quinoa (pronounced keen~wah) to fill you up and provide you with the carbs you need instead of bread if you find bread or wheat products are a culprit......  the quinoa is also rich in calcium and iron and a great source of protein.

    Take a calcium & vitamin D3 rich supplement perhaps in a liquid form (easiest to assimilate) to ensure you get all your calcium on a daily basis ..........and pump up your intake of fresh fish such as salmon and tuna and leafy and green vegies & fresh fruits~ the vegies are rich in both calcium and protein and the fish are rich in magnesium (antistress mineral), protein, EFA's~ essential fatty acids which are also fantastic for nourishing your skin, lowering blood pressure,levelling out any mood or stress levels you may have and bolstering your immunity, calcium and vitamin D (the vitamin D is essential for effective calcium absorption).

    The calcium found in vegies and fruits has a greater impact on bone health than calcium from dairy products anyways.... a study published in The Americal Journal of clinical nutrition (2002) found that a high intake of vegies and fruits has a positive impact on bone health, but dairy did not.

    Dairy products contain animal proteins, which speed the elimination of calcium from the body and make it more acidic. This can cause calcium to leach from the bones and cause problems with magnesium (essential for healthy nerve and muscle functioning and for heart health ~ known as the antistress mineral) absorption, leading to osteoporosis. In addition, we absorb only 30 percent of the calcium found in milk, compared to 40 to 70 percent of the calcium found in vegies and fruits.

    pretty disturbing actually when you consider the way the milk and dairy industry pump us with their commercials to drink more milk !!

    Cow's milk contains proteins that are difficult for humans to digest; when these undigested proteins enter the lower digestive system, they putrefy and cause digestive problems. Dairy products encourage the production of excess mucus in the body, burdening the respiratory, digestive and immune systems. Not surprisingly, when you ditch the milk and dairy people more often than not experience markedly fewer colds and sinus & respiratory infections.

    Lactose intolerance can cause acid reflux, alternating bouts of constipation & diahorrea and will also lead to a compromised digestive system thus laying the groundwork for a body which is extremely susceptible to developing nose, throat, sinus, ear, bronchial, bladder and other infections as well....... Other symptoms of lactose intolerance are mucous in the stools, bloating and cramping, digestive troubles such as constipation, belching and burping, gassiness and wet f*arting (sorry, no other way to say it), ribbony and stringy shaped bowel movements or rabbit pellet shaped movements are all symptoms of lactose intolerance.

    Please also ensure that whichever supplement you decide to buy doesn't contain any lactose, wheat, yeast, gluten, preservatives or flavorings, sugar or yeast as none of these have any place in a good quality supplement anyways.

    You have only vibrant health & vitality to gain by ditching the milk and dairy products mate ............. i sincerely do wish you the very best of health & vitality ♥

    Drink loads more fresh filtered water too to bolster kidney functioning and ensure proper hydration of your body....... ;0)

    peace 2 u

    cheers

    ♥

  4. Kidney *dysfunction*, or slow kidneys, as we see it in natural medicine would not show up in a bloodtest like kidney *disease* does. Naturopathy uses holistic diagnosis looking at the tongue, skin, iris, pulses, hair, nails, emotions and signs and symptoms in all parts of your body. I would be looking for clues about the metabolism, detoxification processes and how your body uses water. Iris signs can assist a naturopathic diagnosis but I would not diagnose on an iris sign alone personally.I'd be asking patients a lot of questions. I don't know what process your naturopath went through but she may well be right. If you'd like to know more ask your naturopath to explain her diagnosis.

    Of course there is no such disorder or disease as "slow kidneys", the naturopath is talking about a naturopathic concept relating to the metabolism and balance of water and toxins in the body. She is NOT talking about DISEASE of the kidneys but a weakness in the detoxification process. It doesn't fit with allopathic medicine because it is from a different school of thought entirely. Doctors dismiss iridology without knowing anything about it. Many of them also dismiss nutrition without knowing much about it. It's strange that, of all other health professionals that naturopaths work with, doctors (just some of them) are the most disrespectful and the least professional and the least likely to actually have a conversation with their patients or even look at them.

  5. I recommend going to a medical doctor. i am for alternative and conventional medicine. I went to an iridologist and they told me about my broken bone and my slow digestion and many other things. If you go to an optometrist they can look at your eyes and tell you if you are diabetic or borderline. the eyes hold some truth about the condition of your health, but if you are really concerned go to a doctor to get another opinion or simply go to another naturopath to see what their opinion is.

  6. could be, could be allergies .  you have to do your own research when it comes to working witb alternative nds.

  7. There is no such disorder as "slow kidneys".   She's just making stuff up.  This person is a charlatan who has no idea what she is talking about, and wants you to take an expensive regime of cleanses and detoxes which will accomplish nothing.  At the end of it, several hundred dollars later you will be told you are cured.  Nice scam

    Iridology is a completely bogus practice.  You can't diagnose kidney disease, or anything else by looking in someone's iris.  (that being said there are some diseases where there may be signs in the eye...such as liver disease, when the whites of the eye turn yellow...known as scleral icterus or jaundice)

    You are quite correct, the only way to tell if you really have kidney disease is by blood or urine tests.  There is no "holistic" way of diagnosing kidney disease.

    Naturopaths don't have any proper training in anatomy or diagnosis.  Their main claim to fame is that they are experts in herbology etc, but much of what they practice in that regard is not evidence based either, but just traditional.
