Natsumi Hoshi wins Women’s 200m butterfly heats: Day four – 2011 FINA World Championships
Natsumi Hoshi clinched the fastest qualification spot in the qualifying rounds of Women’s 200m butterfly meet on fourth day of the Federation Internationale de Natation (FINA) scheduled 2011 World Championships on Wednesday, July 27, in Shanghai, China.
Hoshi captured the top qualification spot of the event, by submitting a fastest time of 2 minutes and 07.34 seconds. Her time was 5.53 seconds behind the world record of 2 minutes and 01.81 seconds, set by Zige Liu of China in 2009. She was also 3.93 seconds
behind the championship record of 2 minutes and 03.41 seconds, made by Jessicah Schipper of Australia at the 2009 World Championships, in Rome.
Hoshi was trailed by Zsuzsanna Jakabos of Hungary, who stayed just 0.26 seconds behind her and earned the second fastest qualification spot, by reporting in a time of 2 minutes and 07.60 seconds. Her time was 0.31 seconds away from her following swimmer,
Kathleen Hersey of USA, who claimed the third fastest spot of the four-lap swim, by clocking a superb time of 2 minutes and 07.91 seconds.
Ellen Gandy of Great Britain was the fourth best finisher, as she stayed only 0.23 seconds behind Hersey and qualified in a time of 2 minutes and 08.14 seconds. In the meantime, the arena was shocked with the fifth best qualification of world record holder,
Liu, who remained only 0.14 seconds behind her preceding swimmer and posted a time of 2 minutes and 08.28 seconds. Mireia Belmonte Garcia of Spain was the sixth best swimmer of the event, as she concluded her swim with an effort of 2 minutes and 08.34 seconds.
Australian swimmer, Stephanie Rice emerged as the seventh finest swimmer to qualify into the semi-finals, as she produced a time of 2 minutes and 08.43 seconds. Eighth qualification spot was secured by Liuyang Jiao, who qualified into the next round with
a timing of 2 minutes and 08.47 seconds.
Furthermore, the crowd was pleased with the efforts of all participants, while these swimmers will meet with each other in the next round to book their seats into the final.
