I'm going camping and was wondering what was a good fly midges repellent. I heard orange peel is good, but until we get a fire going what else could we use?

  1. the smoke from the fire will keep them away any way but you could try putting a banna skin in

  2. chameleon or iguana would be good but if you havent got any then go to a chemist and buy citronella oil and dowse everything with that and also eucalyptus is quite a good one too. If you have an incense oil burner put either one or a combination of both into it and should keep the blighters at bay. Eucalyptus will keep  a lot of things at bay but it might attract the koalas..... good luck have fun and i hope it stays dry for you.....

  3. Citronella oil is a deterrent.  You can apply some to your skin (minding eyes) or put some in a dish.  If you have an essential oil burner, even better.  Have a lovely time camping.

  4. If you are talking about deer flies, well as far as I know, there is nothing that will keep them away if they are hungry although They do like the sun and low damp areas close to water. .  The house flies...unless they are biting, I would just forget them, and the black flies, (not sure if that is what you are calling midges)  the only way to get relief from them is timing...usually they are done their harassing the population by sometime in August.
