Question:

Natural fly spray vs. long lasting?

I am getting (hopefully if i works out) a horse very soon, and I have always wanted to use natural products on them. So for fly spraym I found the absorbine (green bottle) natural horse fly spray that i would like to use... but then I looked and found one thats lasts up to 17 days.

I was curious if the natural spray would be as effective as a regular fly spray, or if it is better if I just buy the regular kind.

note: Im not going to use the 17 day one (I just wanted to point out that some last a long time) because Im sure there are much more chemicals in it etc. I just wanted to know all of your guys opinions.

  1. Well there's this stuff calld marigold spray it works  ALOT. OR u can get three different types of natural fly spray and spray them on him one after the other so they r all on there at once.

  2. No fly spray lasts that long!  Even higher end sprays need to be applied every day during the peak season.  How long does a high end spray last?   Until the bottle is empty...

  3. well, i have to use the absorbine on my horse because hes a TB and therefore allergic to just about EVERYTHING.  Like i have to use baby shampoo to give him a bath. xD

and honestly, its not as long lasting as the other stuff, but it smells better... i go to the barn 4 days a week, and apply once before i ride, and then once again after i've hosed him off and groomed him, right before i'm putting him in his stall... he gets a few bites, of course.. but it works considering its my only option!

but if you want to be REALLY all natural, buy a fly sheet to keep on him, works better then fly spray, and it ends up being cheaper in the long run.

  4. well because natural fly sprays dont have all of those crazy chemicals they arent AS effective but if you get fly traps along with the natural spray your fly control will be just as good if not better then it would b if u used the long lasting.

  5. I use a fly spray that is natural on my horse and I really can't complain. It doesn't work super well BUT I would much rather use it compared to regular fly spray.

My reason is because I'm not afraid about breathing it in and it harming me or the horse. Regular fly sprays really affect me with all the chemicals and I can spray this without one care in the world, it doesn't matter if it blows back in my face or anything.

I also feel better knowing that the product is natural and therefore better for my horse, and if it somehow gets on my horse's feed or in his water it isn't so dangerous as regular fly spray.

I would say try the natural based off of personal preference :)

    This is it here:

It lasts a VERY long time because you dilute the product with water, and therefore you can adjust it.

The Absorbine probably works just as great and I love Absorbine products, so I would definitely give it a try or the product I linked to above :)

    Good luck!

    EDIT:

I forgot a few little notes I can add in...

My trainer uses this spray which is how I learned about it, and I know for a fact it's great because everything she uses is well, great XD She takes the most amazing care of her horses and chooses her products very carefully.

You do have to reapply it more often, for example I apply it at least once everyday (sometimes twice) but it's not a bother to me. The fact that is it all natural and doesn't affect me (it actually smells kinda good!) is better than anything :)
