Does anyone know what the natural or local products of Poitiers, France are? Such as, dairy products, wine, bread, meat, etc. I've been searching the web but I can't find anything! Also, does anyone know of a website that could give me this information?

It is from the Poitou-Charentes region tourism office, it is a non exhaustive list of the delicacies of the area.

    There is an English version.

As for me I LOVE their Goat cheese and butter!

  2. Hi, I'm French, I did some search for you ! I used the Babel fish traduction, because I'm not fluent in english ... so I'm sorry for the mistakes.

The Poitevine gastronomy is made of consistent meals with sauce, cooked of long hours and oblige to eat bread...

Basic ingredients of this gastronomy which we will describe as "plantureuse" are: butter (name AOC) the nut oil (for salads only), goat's milk cheeses (in particular famous Chabichou), melons, chestnuts and nuts, the cabbages (vegetables stars of the kitchen poitevine), haricot beans (called "mojettes"), the lamb and the kid, products of the river (fish of fresh water, crayfish, eels, frogs...) finally the snails, which one calls here of the lumas (small gray very different from snails of Burgundy), the wine of Poitou will be able to accompany your meals: light red wines and sharp white wines, in particular Gamay.

The typical principal meal of the area is the stuffed "poitevin": stuffed cabbages with spinaches and "oseille".

Before the dessert, Chabichou of Poitou is a very good goat's milk cheese.

For the dessert, you will be able to choose between the oil cheese cake and crushed of Poitou (rather friable cake).

I give you 2 links for discovering Poituers and the Poitou Charentes Region
