Natural remedies for eye allergies?

I recently went to my eye doctor, and he suggested that I had eye allergies. I get white or clear mucus, and my eyes frequently hurt, or itch (that's the best way to describe it). I really don't want to get medication for it, but don't know what else to do. I want to know what my options are. I have considered leaving it alone, and not doing anything, but like I said, I really want to know what my options are before I decide. Also, any information about eye allergies would be appreciated, because I would like to know more about it before I call my eye doctor. I don't know if this makes a difference, but I wear contacts. I have been taking them out for night (I have night and day) since I found out.

I use OTC Zyrtec 10 mg. If they get too bad I'll use sailen solution. (sterel water)
