Natural talent for sports

This is probably quite a stupid question but do you have to have a natural talent for sport? Or is it that if you start a sport really young you'll automatically be good at it? Eg if you start swimming at the age of 5 does that mean you'll be amazing 10 years later? Or if you start gymnastics at 6 you'll be amazing by the time you;re 16? Or do you have to have a natural talent for it already? Like all the olympic athletes, did they all start w/e sport they do at a really young age or did some not start till they were lke 15 but they just had a natural ability for it

  1. To be good at something you have to start when your young and keep working at your goal. Hope that Helps!

  2. you dont have to start younge to be good at something just keep practicing

  3. Some people are just gifted that way. I started gymnastics last year and i'm already a level 8. Things just come natural to me like i've done it before. It's weird. I hope to be amazing one day so I can get a full ride to a great school. It's different than everyone, but you have to be a fast learner.

  4. Generally people who are in the olympics have a talent AND start very young. But that isn't always true, Tom Daley started diving when he was 10, now he's 14 and he's in the olympics because he has natural talent and has worked super hard at something he loves.

I started swimming when I was 5 and trained three times a week, at about the age of 8 I was one of the best in my county. Then I got really bad eczema and couldn't swim more than once a week which meant I couldn't train properly. Now I can swim twice a week (I'm 13) and possibly could get to county level if I trained with a good club 5 times a week, but I can't, so there's not point trying to pursue it because my skin won't let me.

But just because you start young, it doesn't mean you'll automatically be good at it. I started gymnastics when I was 3, I learnt to do crabs, forward rolls, backward rolls, shoulder stands and all the basic stuff, but I was too scared to try a handstand or cartwheel so I couldn't progress. On the other hand, my sister started at the same age, loved it, could do handstands, cartwheels etc but when she got to 4 or 5 decided she didn't like it and stopped. You have to get the balance right between starting early enough to get a headstart and too early so that you get sick of it.

You never know though, you may have a talent for a sport you've never tried, love it and be amazing. But if you are amazing at it, you still have to train hard, if you find you're good at something then you have to want to do it.
