Can I use them instead of the new box? TV doesn't tell me clearly and I have coupons for the boxes but I'd rather use rabbit ears if I can.

  1. If you don't have cable or satellite service, and you want to receive TV after 2/17/09, you need an antenna connected to the converter box which then connects to the analog TV or a TV with a digital tuner.

The converter box takes the DTV signal from the antenna and converts it to analog TV so that an old set can display it.

So, you need both-antenna plus box.

  2. If you use rabbit ears or an antenna on your house, you will need to buy a converter, to convert the digital signal to analog, or get cable installed.  If you already have cable, you don't have to do anything.
