I am always shocked to see how many people talk about an epidural or induction, then c-sec as though it's every day..Why are people not wanting to learn how to have the best and safest birth? It just dumbfounds me!

  1. Well to start off it hurts like all h**l. With my first daughter i did not use an  epidural (she came natrual) It did hurt alot but with my 2nd daughter i was induced and i could not take it i needed an epidural when your enduced the contractions hurt more. But im now 36 weeks along and im planing NO MEDS. Its better that way i think..

  2. With my first son I was induced because my doc said we lived too far away and I was shocked at how much pain there was. My contractions were so close together I couldn't catch my breath or relax to prepare for the next one. I am HOPING that I won't be induced this time as well, because I would like to experience natural birth. Though I really don't think I can handle all the pain. My mom had us 3 kids with no medication and it gets me thinking well, why wouldn't I be able to?

So even though we live an hour and a half away I am hoping my doc won't induce me because of that. I want to see how far I can go without

    an epidural.

By the way have you ever had a baby? Was it a natural birth?

  3. Some women need C-Sections for medical reasons. Others cannot handle the pain of child birth so opt for medications. If you've had kids and had them all natural, well then props to you. Not everyone is like you however.

  4. I went into my first delivery with an open mind, I learned the breathing techniques and the different birthing positions and all, but knew that if I asked for an epidural I could have one.  I didn't really want anything that could slow down the delivery of my son.

Unexpected things happen though...  my water broke without me being in labor, and for the safety of me and the baby (not to mention that you can't continue your normal life when water is gushing out of you) they induced me.  After 9 hours, the contractions were unbearable, but I was only 2 1/2 cm dilated.  I couldn't cope with the idea that I was less than 1/2 way there, and I really couldn't handle the pain anymore.  They gave me the epi, and my body just relaxed and opened up.  I delivered about 5 hours later.  I'm certain if I had refused the epidural, they would have taken the baby by C-section, because his cord was pinched, and he couldn't have handled many more hours of that slow labor!

I don't judge anyone.  Labor hurts like h**l, and I see nothing wrong with taking something for the pain if you need it.  If you choose to deliver naturally - good for you!

  5. First off I would like to say that to me anyway you give birth to your baby no matter how you chose to do it is "natural". The other thing I would like to say is this: No matter how well you think you plan the delivery it doesn't mean it will go that way. Your baby and body may have a different plan in the birthing process! I went into labor on my own with boy #1 about 46 hours later I had him & I made sure to get the epidural as soon as I got there b/c I was extremely tired I was a full 4 cm. I desperately needed some rest if I was going to deliver him. I got the epidural & got the rest I needed & had him out in 10 minutes! Boy #2 I had to get induced b/c he didn't want to come out I waited a full 8 days after the due date before getting induced & I did what I could at home to try & get things moving along on my own. If your body & baby isn't ready then it needs a little "help". I got the epidural with him & it only worked on one side at first but they fixed that problem and I was again well rested to do the delivery. It didn't slow anything down & I gave birth to him just fine I had him out in about 10 minutes as well too. Boy #3 came quick fast & in a hurry! I wanted the epidural so bad but I was just going too fast & they couldn't get a vein to give me fluids. I was 4 cm when I went into active labor & then went from 4cm to 7 cm in about an hour & a half, then went from 7 cm to 10 cm in like 45 minutes! That was worst pain I have EVER endured & I just kept asking why women chose to do this on purpose! All the nurses responded the same"We don't know!" It was a different recovery from the other two but it wasn't any better or worse just different. There are pros & cons to everything in life it's up to the women to decide what's best for her & her baby. Just know that if you are a first time mom just think about what you want & plan for it wisely but remember that just b/c you want it to go this certain way doesn't mean that it will! I wanted to try & do all my labors as long as I could w/out medication but I ended up needing it & I was fine with the choices I made. Just know that you get a beautiful baby in the end & that makes whatever you decide to do worth it!

  6.   I am a mother of 2 and am currently pregnant with my third. I had both of my children au'natural!!! My daughter was born in 1997 and I had every intention of getting an epidural however she came too fast and I missed the opportunity; so when I had my son, 9 years later, I remembered how quick my delivery was and how I ( unlike epidural moms) was up & walking around right away. I remember thinking that the pain wasn't totally intolerable & that I could do it again without a problem! Well... having a baby at 31 is quite different than having a baby at 21-though I stuck to my guns and had no drugs, my son was 2 lbs heavier and I was in hard labor for longer than with my daughter. I deliver fairly quickly (5hrs this last time- about 4 the first) but if I was in labor for any longer I would've been demanding an epidural. So here I am entering my third trimester for the third time and again I am not anticipating the need for an epidural, it sure is a comforting thought to know that there is something to offer relief if need be!

  7. Natural is not always the safest way.  Emergencies happen.  I see you just had baby number 6 so you should know that not every labor and delivery happens the same.  C-sections are great for emergencies.  Inductions and epidurals happen.

Its kind of like no dress is going to fit everyone.  You need to do what's best for the baby and yourself.

  8. I gave birth 4 months ago, i was 5 months pregnant my baby was very small (he passed away) but the pain was not i didnt get anything for the pain although the baby was small the pain was unbearable all i know is next time i have a baby i will definitely get an epidural.

  9. Ok I have to say I'm 18 weeks pregnant and I read the pamphlets my doctor gave me about the epidural.  I have decided I am going to go natural only because the side affects scared me.

I also heard that labor goes quicker without drugs.

  10. I had a shot of some kind of pain reliever (nubain I think?) and it took the edge off of the contractions enough so I could try and rest because I didn't go into the hospital until 9pm.  it took the edge off but I could still definitely feel pain.

choosing an epidural would probably depend on my state of mind at the time and if I felt I could go through with it (though I had no problems handling it at 21 so I can't imagine I'd have problems if I managed to have one next year at 33).

some people have a low pain threshold, others can tolerate much more than that.  I don't think there is one way that is more correct than others because everyone is so different.  besides, it's easier for everyone involved if the mother is relatively calm.  no one needs a terrified laboring woman flipping out on them.  it's not good for her and it's defnitely not good for the baby.

  11. I've had 2 children.  I was being wheeled to the delivery room when the meds wore off.  I would not wish that kind of pain on anyone.  It's also scarry if it's your first one.  Remaining calm is #1 priority.  To me the meds are the safest way.  The last thing you want in the delivery room is pandamonium.

  12. I would rather not feel that amount of pain thank you....I am not super women. It is also a personal choice. I am expecting my baby in 5 weeks and I definitely want the epidural. I would not choose to have a c-section, I would only get one if it was an emergency.

  13. I don't believe in c-sections unless it's an emergency, but I can't imagine giving birth without pain medication.  I'd prefer to be in no pain then have to suffer through with pain.

  14. I have had 3 children. I have never had an epidural bc I am scared of the horror stories that you hear about them. But I was very young (16) when I had my first child and they gave me IV drugs (that mainly just made me loopy) without even asking me. (I am sure they asked my Mom) I was so tired afterwards all I wanted to do is sleep and couldn't enjoy my baby. I don't even remember that much the delivery or the hours after. So I opted for a natural child birth 9 years later with my second child. Yes the pain was there and it was intense but I lived through it. It went much faster than my last one. And afterwards, there was no recovery time, I was alert and felt great. I was surprised at how good I felt! Once the baby was out, the pain was over. After having a birth with IV drugs and one with no drugs, I chose no drugs again for my third and had a natural birth. It went very quickly and again I felt great afterwards. Both times I was up taking a shower that evening after having them. I am pregnant again and will again have a natural child birth. I, in NO way, think women are weak or wrong for having epidurals etc. you have to do what makes you comfortable. I just enjoy being alert and having the ability to feel myself pushing the baby out. It gave me a great feeling of accomplishment.
